hyperlink content preview

Post by chiapas »

Hyperlink is a feature of PDF format. For example, in a PDF file, one can click a hyperlink and it goes to a citation, a remark, a footnote, a theorem, a section or a chapter...etc.

But very often, one doesn't want to go to the page that a hyperlink directs to, but he just wants to have an idea about a citation, a remark, a footnote, a remark or what a theorem says (but not go into the details).

It would be a very nice and cool feature that PDF-XChange can "preview" these contents when one moves the cursor over a hyperlink, by a pop-up window (something like tooltip). This avoids unnecessary jumping between pages. (But I don't know if this feature requires a lot of coding...)

Hello chiapas,

And welcome to our forums. However I am afraid that this is not quite an easy to implement feature as those hyperlinks could be to other portions of the same document, or to external sources (and very heavy web pages) - so this is not something that I see as a feature we would add in the foreseeable future, but the PDF specification allows annotations to have a "note" text - so if you hover over an annotation that has such - a pop-up with this text will be shown as in the attached example.

Best,
Stefan

@Stefan:

I could imagine the difficulty. But I wish one day PDF-XChange will have this function - and it would be the first PDF software has this feature.

p.s. But I don't want to preview an external link, just a hyperlink to other portions of the same document. (Because my point is to avoid jumping between pages in a document, if it is not really necessary).

Hello chiapas,

Have you tried the Editor and it's split view feature?
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/product ... nge-editor
(go to Window -> Split)
With it you can have your content in one of the viewing areas, and the references in the other, and see both at the same time.

Cheers,
Stefan
