Strange text characters

I am experimenting with the Editor and have tried to edit text. For some reason, the edited text bears no resemblence to what I typed. It is as if I am using a completely foreign keyboard/regional settings, but I am not, and text in every other program is correct typing 'asdfg' produces '.s;%1' on the edited pdf. Copying the typed (wrong) characters to paste into this post simply pastes 'asdfg'.
Similary, 'zxcvb' is output as 'zx/v:'
Changing font makes no difference - it is consistently wrong.
is there a country/language setting somewhere I need to modify, although what I did find was already set to English (US)
Any ideas?

Hello KGB,

Can you make sure you are using build 300 of the editor and not e.g. 280 which was the very first beta?
And then if you have the latest build - can you send us a sample file before and after editing for comparison?

Thanks for swift reply. I can confirm use of build 300. I have sent examples via email.

Interestingly, a different pdf (a print from a web page) edits OK, and the text is accurately represented.

I have attached that as well, for comparison purposes.
