Missing features

Post by davews »

Initial impressions of v301.0 were good and certainly sorted out the rendering problem I had with some pdf's on 2.5. The editor also seems to work well, though it is not clear what parts are only available in the Pro version - I got no watermarks with the checks I did.

But things are missing....

As previously mentioned, default page zoom and most of the other options on the preferences/page display pane are not sticky.

Interactive web forms from HMRC, eg http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/charities/r68-claim.pdf do not work. They work fine in 2.5 and Foxit 5.4

I have a couple of DVDs that use navigation menus, ie you click on somewhere in the index pdf or bookmarks and it opens a new pdf. I am not sure of the actual mechanism, it does not seem to be javascript. Whatever, nothing happens in 301.0. These also work fine in 2.5 and Foxit. Being DVDs it is not easy to send you an example.

But it does look as if this is still very much a work in hand and there is a lot more to do to implement all 2.5's features.

Not sure I like the new icon either, it looks far too much like a skull and crossbones to me...

Add to the list the fact that I cannot add my own custom stamps.

This is still beta software. Not gold by any means.

Hello davews,

Interactive forms are inded not yet supported in the Editor, but we are working on that. As for navigating to other PDF files - if you copy the PDfss from the DVD to a local folder and keep the structure - you should be able to test if that still works in our Viewer - if it does - you should then be able to send us such a sample.

@RadarSadie - while creating custom stamp palettes is indeed not available in the Editor, if you have existing custom stamps you can copy those from the Viewer. Please go to:
C:\Users\<<YOUR USERNAME>>\AppData\Roaming\Tracker Software\PDF-XChange Viewer\2.0
and copy the stamps folder to
C:\Users\<<YOUR USERNAME>>\AppData\Roaming\Tracker Software\PDFXEditor\3.0
And the next time you start the editor all of your stamps will be available in the Editor.

Best,
Stefan

Thanks Stefan. The files are really too large to forward and in one case is heavily protected for copyright so I cannot really do this. That particular DVD does indeed use javascript, but when I look under javascript under file/properties it shows nothing so I am wondering whether javascript is working at all.

(or of course you could buy one of the DVDs from http://www.service-data.com/ (Vintage Radio Service Data)....)

Thanks for the clarification Dave,

My colleagues are telling me that anything that worked in the Viewer will work in the Editor as well - so it's just a matter of getting it all properly ported (or rewritten for a lot of things :) ) to the Editor. I expect that your DVDs will start workign with the Editor in one of the upcoming builds.

Best,
Stefan

I agree that the new icon is not the best. I don't see the skulls, as davews :-), but I'm sure you could improve it somehow. Maybe I don't like the gray colour so much.

I know it's purely a matter of opinion, though. :-)
