Hello,
we have a program that creates FDF files and if we try to open the files with the xchange viewer we get the error:
Error [PDF Structure 40]: Required property is not set
I googled for fdf file and this is a pdf like format, is it possible to open these files with the xchange viewer?
We use the version 2.5 Build 210
XChange viewer is unalbe to open FDF file

Re: XChange viewer is unalbe to open FDF file
Hello phatair,
.fdf files most commonly contain forms and/or comments data that is to be included in an actual .pdf file.
If you have the .pdf as well - you can open that in the Viewer and then depending on what the .fdf contains you can load it from either File -> Form Data -> Import data to form or Comments -> Import Comments.
Our PDF-X Editor should handle .fdf files directly - so you can download and try it as well:

Re: XChange viewer is unalbe to open FDF file
Hi Stefan,
its just a fdf file, no pdf available.
the pdf-x editor is a commercial product, right? We want to use the xchange pdf viewer because its free, fast and simple
but if its not possible to display the fdf files we have to think about it.
hm...a competitor program can open these fdf files

Re: XChange viewer is unalbe to open FDF file
Hi phatair,
the .fdf can not be opened on it's own - so somewhere there IS a PDF file to which the information from the .fdf will be added
The Editor is the successor of the Viewer, and while some features in it require a license - some are also free. Just like in the Viewer.
Best,
Stefan

Re: XChange viewer is unalbe to open FDF file
Hi Stefan,
thanks for the reply. Ok, maybe a pdf file is opened in the backend - i dont know the program that our user is using but i still get the error message if i press the pdf button in the program.
i will try it with the pdf-x editor.
If it works with foxit reader it should work with your pdf viewer, too.
Greeting,
Steffen

Re: XChange viewer is unalbe to open FDF file
Hi Steffen,
Yes there is a PDF somewhere
Our Viewer can't handle .fdf files directly and as I mentioned above - you need to open the .pdf first and then load the .fdf. The Editor should handle the .fdfs directly though.
Best,
Stefan
