snapshot tool question

Post by Boise12345 »

Can the snapshot tool be used in conjunction with the polyline tool? this would make copying non-rectangular object quite a bit easier and less cumbersome.

No really - why can you not just copy the object and paste ?
If posting files to this forum - you must archive the files to a ZIP, RAR or 7z file or they will not be uploaded - thank you.

Boise12345,

I have the same issue for inserting equipment, matching column lines etc. on PDF prints. . I just keep cutting and pasting until I have trimmed the item to fit. I combine several page of prints sometimes to make the entire takeoff simpler---all on one page type of file and be able to understand the scope better. (Attached sample).

CAD is easier but some equipment manufacturers do not furnish the CAD file of the equipment so cutting and pasting and snapshots are needed which is a little time consuming but worth it in the long run.

Hi guys,

thanks for the posts. One potential problem I can see is that the snapshot tool takes an image and I'm not familiar with any image formats that support anything other than a rectangle so I don't know if this could be done. It may be that an area defined by a polygon could be copied to the clipboard as an image but I can see potential problems like it needing to fill a bounding box to complete a rectangle.

I've passed the suggestion on to the development team by adding it to the wish list however this is unlikely to be a high priority and may not even be possible.

hth

John, In my particular situation I am trying to copy apartment or condo units with irregular shapes multiple times to create a large building (similar to a jigsaw puzzle). Therefore snapshotting of irregular shapes would save a measurable amount of time. The units I speak of are already on the pdf and cannot be "copy/pasted". I have done what Herb suggests and snapshotted multiple times to get what I need, but it does take a lot of time to do. Thank you all for responding and commenting :D

Hello Boise12345,

Please also download and try our PDF-X Editor:
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/product/pdf-xchange-editor
It allows you to select multiple items at once, and I presume that those apartments are consisting of vector objects - so copying only what you need should be much easier. For now you can only move the selection, and copy / pasting (including to a separate file) should be possible in one of the next few builds of the Editor.

Best,
Stefan
