Problem with links in PDF-X Change Viewer Pro

Post by crx »

Hello,

I have the following problem with links in PDF-X Change Viewer Pro (2.5 Build 211 and earlier):

When I use a PDF document with an embeded link [i.e. to page 8], the click on it jumps always on the next page [i.e. to page 9]. Why?
If I "Fix up" (under Link properties), the problem seems to be solved.

Is there more comfortable solution because we have to many PDFs and can't fix all of them this way.
The problem does not exists with Adobe Reader X (i.e. Ver. 10.1.7).

Thank you. :-)

Hello crx,

And welcome to our forums!
I am afraid that if a link takes you to the bottom of a page and you are in "continuous" page viewing mode - the Viewer/Editor will show you the bottom of the page on which you wanted to go plus the whole next page. If you switch to "single page" mode - clicking such a link should display the correct page.

Hello Stefan,

thank you for your help.
I have changed the page layout to "single page" and the link jumps to correct page - thank you :-)
But now I realized that my page will be not displayed complete at the top. Some header area disappear and I have to scroll up again to see the top of my page.
I find out that inside the "link properties"-settings page exists an y-coordinates value (29.70). When I change it to 0.00 the jump behaves correctly.

Do you know the reason for this value, I've never set this at pdf creation time?

thank you.

Hi crx,

Yes - a link could point to a specific place on a page - and to do so it specifies X and Y coordinates. The internal coordinate system for PDF pages starts from the bottom left corner, but links are using the upper left for 0,0. The program you used to create those links is setting them to the bottom instead of the top of the page probably without you setting anything up, but it might be worth checking if you can set this Y value to 0 for future link creation operations.

Stefan

Hi Stefan,

your proposition to change the view-mode from "continuous" to "single page" solves my problem a little bit.
But when I compare both of the applications - Adobe Reader X with Pdf XChange - the Adobe Reader only seems to work properly with both settings: "single mode" and "continuouse". Is it a bug in PDF X-Change that it's not displaying my document in "single mode" correctly?

You can test the behavior with the attached PDF-File (Dokument5.pdf) on Acrobat Reader X and then on PDF-X Change.
(compared result: comp_AR_vs_PDFXC.pdf)

Best regards

Hello crx,

I just tested, and indeed in your case Adobe is opening the "correct" page. Your bookmarks are pointing to a position outside of the page -0.11 pt on the Y axis - and I presume this is confusing our Viewer.
However our PDF-X Editor handles your bookmarks correctly:

So I would recommend you to download it and give it a try.
