Date stamp

Post by Lueftchen »

I am using PDF Xchange Viewer and allready use it for digital signatures.
But now we receive a lot of documents to be signed where the date should also be named.
Is there any possibility to create a "dynamic" stamp which automatically has the actual date in it?

Hi Lueftchen,

Thanks for the post and welcome to the forums - the Viewer isn't capable of creating dynamic stamps, but it is capable of working with them. If such a stamp were to be created in a program that could do so, then it could be imported into the Viewer and be used as intended. Please see this KB article for more information:
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/knowled ... the-Viewer

Cheers, hope that helps!

Thanks for the link!
I made a colleague to create a dynamic stamp with Acrobat Pro and it is working with Acrobat, then i copied it into the mentioned folder for ´Xchange viewer and it is not working!
I can use the stamp in Xchange veiwer, but it always prints the same old date in!
What can i do?
I attached the stamp, so maybe someone can have a look and tell me what is wrong.

Hello Lueftchen,

How exactly did your colleague create this stamp?
As if he just stamped an empty page, and you then tried to copy that page - I am afraid that this is not a valid dynamic stamp and you won't be anle to make this document work in any PDF viewing application as a dynamic stamp.

Hello Stefan,

i do not exactly know, how he created the stamp, as he is working in Finland.
I also can't ask him, because he left for holidays on friday, but he
told me that he has used the stamp in Adobe Acrobat Pro and it was working.

Hi Lueftchen,

I myself just returned from my holiday! :)

From the description provided, while I can't be 100% sure, I believe that most likely your colleague simply "stamped" an empty document. If he locates the actual .pdf file containing the dynamic stamp itself, and sends it to you - you should then be able to add that to your stamps folder and be able to use the dynamic stamp.

Stefan

Hi Lueftchen,

I did, and the staps are not dynamic at my end either.
Attached are two sets of dynamic stamps that I have on my machine - in English and French.
Hope those will work correctly at your end as well.

Could you not just create a dynamic stamp with the actual date and without any background or frame for me?

Hi,

I'm a new user of PDF Xchange Viewer Pro.
I've searched high and low, unfortunately this seem to be the thread that's most suitable...

I understand that you don't offer dynamic stamps with current version 2.5 (build 211), however, is it something you plan to make in the future...?
By dynamic stamps, I also need to design a stamp, where I have i.e. current date and initials of the person using the stamp...

All the best
Kim Frederik

Hello Kim Frederik,

We do not yet offer the creation of new dynamic stamps in our own products, but if you have such a stamp from elsewhere - you should be able to use it in our Viewer/Editor as well as described in this KB article:

So I assume this means that it's something you're working on... ;)
Is there any alpha or beta versions available, where Dynamic stamps are working?

Sorry for the rookie question, but have you set a release date for v3 - or a rough estimate?

Hi Kim,

V3 of the Viewer is actually called the PDF-X Editor - and a beta is available for download and testing here:
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/product ... nge-editor
However the creation of dynamic stamps is not yet present in this beta.

As said before - existing such dynamic stamps can be used if imported from another source.

I am surprised that this seems to be such a random request. It would appear to me that anyone using a stamp on a pdf would at some point want a stamp for a signature, a company log, and a date and time. I am surprised that this stamp isn't already integrated into the program as opposed to all those other stamps. It is also amazing that anyone from this software would refer to the use opf a competitor software which I was enticed to drop so that I could use this software. This seems like a pretty simple request and yet there seems to be no answer. I am now in search of a pdf editor that does offer this basic tool.

Hello geneva pain specialists,

The requirement by the PDF standard is for us to include the "Approved" , "As IS" , "Confidential" etc. stamps, and any other stamps available are in addition to the requirement. As already stated - we do support dynamic stamps, and if you have them from elsewhere it's really easy to include them and start using them in our Viewer. We can not provide those competitor stamps directly in our product due to licensing issues. We are considering creating a stamps creation tool which will allow you to create your own dynamic stamps, but this tool will be available later in the PDF-X Editor.

Unfortunately I'm not particular familiar with dynamic stamps and which applications to use to create such stamps...
Can you enlighten me and provide some advice about some applications I can use for this purpose?
And once I manage to create a dynamic stamp, how I can use it together with PDF Xchange Viever (where to place the file, enabling me to use it as a tool etc)
Tracker Supp-Stefan wrote:We are considering creating a stamps creation tool
Have to say that I'm not happy reading the "we are considering" phrase...
According to your knowledgebase, which I quoted earlier in this thread, it clearly states that the creation of Dynamic Stamps is coming in v.3 of the Viewer...

I believe some confirmation is in place here...
When can we expect to see v. 3 with dynamic stamp creation tool?
I don't expect a specific date, but will be satisfied with a rough estimate (ie in 4 quarter 2013)

Hi Kim,

You might find already existing dynamic stamps on various websites, and to create your own - you will for now need to use one of Adobe's licensed products like e.g. Acrobat.

As for our own stamp tool - apologies for the wording. Indeed it is planned, however I can't give you even a rough estimate when it would be available at this point.

However, I can't get it to work in PDF Xchange Viewer... :(
Even when trying to use some of the dynamic stamps, which comes standard with Acrobat, I can't get them to work either...

Can someone shed some light about how to get this to work...??

Re: Date stamp

Post by kim frederik blom semelin »

It's actually really easy to make your own dynamic stamps... :)
The only thing you need is an application, which is capable of creating a pdf formular...

Here's a quick guide, where you can easily design your own stamp:
1.) Create your stamp in i.e. Photoshop and save it as png-file.
(it's important that you save it as a png-file, since saving as i.e. a pdf-file won't show the stamp, when you've stamped a document and want to save it with the stamp)
2.) Open PDF Xchange Viewer and click "New document"
3.) Click the Show stamps pallet (not sure if this is the correct title in English version - perhaps some of the supporters can correct this?)
4.) Create a new category and create a new stamp using the png-file you've designed.

Your new stamp will be saved as a pdf-document and will be located in one of the following paths:
in XP:

Code: Select all

"<DriveLetter>:\Documents and Settings\<User>\Application Data\Tracker Software\PDF-XChange Viewer\2.0\Stamps\"
in Vista

Code: Select all

"<DriveLetter>:\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Tracker Software\PDF-XChange Viewer\2.0\Stamps"
in Win7:

Code: Select all

"<DriveLetter>:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Tracker Software\PDF-XChange Viewer\2.0\Stamps\"
or

Code: Select all

"<DriveLetter>:\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Tracker Software\PDF-XChange Viewer\2.0\Stamps\"
5.) Close PDF Xchange Viewer
6.) Rename the pdf-document to something more appropriate.
7.) Open the pdf-document using an application capable of making a pdf-formular.
8.) Insert the code you want to use
(make a search in the Internet, there's plenty of resources online.
Here's one example: http://acrobatusers.com/tutorials/dynamic_stamp_secrets )

9.) Save the pdf-document with the new formular.
10.) Open PDF Xchange Viewer and your new dynamic stamp is ready to use.

The attached dynamic stamp example opens a dialog, where the user is supposed to enter a name or number, which will show in the stamp together with the date.
Image
(Wonder why jpg-extension are disabled on this board... )

Check it and test it...
Simply copy the attached pdf-document to one of the paths mentioned above, and the stamp will become available for use in PDF Xchange Viewer.

Have fun! :)

You're welcome, Stefan.
I hope others will find it useful and can get some ideas about how useful dynamic stamps are...!
The process is tedious as you need another application to make it (and a little strange that I need a 3rd party competative application), but that's the way it is for now...
I really look forward to see an internal solution...

Now i finally received a dynamic date stamp, created with Adobe Professional which is definetely working in Adobe.
My Problem is, that it is so small in Xchange Viewer that i can't see if it is working!
How can i enlarge it?

It's because the size of the stamp isn't defined...

I've created a new pdf-document for you containing two date stamps...
First with a border...
Second without a border...

I've checked to see that they do work in PDF Xchange Viewer... :)

Hope you can use it...

Although it's not that difficult to create dynamic stamps, the task is tedious because you need to swap between other pdf applications... :|
I sure look forward to see a solution enabling users to create their own dynamic stamps - even if it's based on some templates...
Most important for me is that this option is implemented directly inside PDF Xchange Viewer (or whatever the new app. is going to be named  )

Hello lisali,

The Idea of a dynamic stamp is to capture some information dynamically at the time of placing it (e.g. the then current date) - and put that in the document. When you later open the file - you would like to see when this stamp was added rather than what date is it today.

I presume there could be a way to achieve this dynamic date display with other means (e.g. JS code inside the document's body), but such tools are not available in our Viewer/Editor and certainly after a stamp is placed in a document it's contents is no longer dynamically changed.

Hi,

Thanks for your response.

Oh. That's unfortunate. When I work in other applications, for example - Serif PagePlus, any dynamic object, like a date stamp, is automatically updated when the document is opened again.

It would be good to see this available - at least for basic dynamic objects like date, time, page number etc - in PDF-XChange Viewer.

Thanks!

Hi Lisali,

The idea of a dynamic stamp in a PDF file is different - it is dynamic at the time you place it, and then it becomes a static one - just as if you were e.g. using a hardware date tool that you can change before placing a stamp with a date on a physical sheet of paper - but once there - the stamp is permanent.

What you want/require could be achieved with e.g. dynamic XFA content, but there are no tools in our products for the creation of such content yet. However if you have a file with such an XFA form it should display properly in the Viewer.

Even that this is an old post I found it very useful.
As there are some informations missing, I'd like to give some hints for people like me who don't own an Acrobat professional license and don't want to buy or rent one.
I tried to use Libre Office but with no "fast" efford (the insertion of the JavaScript code wasn't described clearly). So I tried Scribus which also has the ability to produce PDF-forms. After some juggling with Scribus I got a stamp and the JavaScript code injected.

This stamp works fine when it is used as a single PDF but when I add it to the stamp-collection either in a new or in an existing, it doesn't work anymore.

I use V5.5 Build 314.0 on a win7 professional(64bit) machine.

Could you please lead me to a solution for my problem? I also saw that you could do something with date, time counter... when you click on the little symbol on the right side of the name selector box what do these things do? I couldn't see any behaviour?

Thanks in advance

Hi Olfried,

Thanks for the post - the PDF that you have sent us is not a stamp collection PDF, but is just 'regular' PDF. The Editor cannot create dynamic stamp collections, but only work with existing dynamic stamp collections. You would need to use Adobe Reader, for example, to create the stamp collection and then copy it from i.e. C:\Users\Will\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Acrobat\DC\Stamps to C:\Users\Will\AppData\Roaming\Tracker Software\PDFXEditor\3.0\Stamps. It should then work fine.
when you click on the little symbol on the right side of the name selector box what do these things do? I couldn't see any behaviour?
Can you please be more specific? I'm sure that I know what symbol you're referring to.

Hi Will,
thanks for the immediate answer. As I'm unable to install an Acrobat reader (Is this correct only the reader could create a stamp collection) my dynamic stamp dreams are gone :(.
For the second part of my post find a png attached, which will show what I mean. What can I do with this ? when I click one of them there will be a variable shown (%something) but nothing happens when I stamp something.

Hello Olfried,

Adobe Reader 7 is a free download now - just search for it online.

As for the second question and the screenshot you've provided - those are macros to be included in the name of the new stamp that you will create, not things that will be added to the content of the stamp and placed onthe page when you use the stamp.

Stefan
