Ebooks page number not correct
Ebooks especially academic one have sizable prefaces, that in Adobe reader correctly read as page ii, iv, and so on. Then begin to use numbers when the books actually start.
Version 2.5.211.0 Xchange viewer does not make any distinction and begins counting pages at the preface. This is disorienting b/c viewer count and the page number in the pdf are different. In Adobe Reader, it properly correlates.

Re: Ebooks page number not correct
Hello Elena34,
Welcome to our forums and thanks for your comments. Yes indeed the page counter at the bottom of the Viewer counts from the begining of the document, but if you open the pages navigation pane (Ctrl-T) - you should properly see the i, ii, iii, pages there.
The PDF-X Editor should now show the correct "logical" page numbers in both places with the correct setting in Edit -> Preferences -> Page Display.
Regards,
Stefan

Sorry for the other dup post. It didn't show up so I thought it didn't go through. So what settings in page display do you need to make them both honor the preface numbering?

Hi Elena,
It's not possible to change the behaviour in the Viewer, but in the Editor go to Edit -> Preferences and you will find the option. I've highlighted it on the attached image.
Best,
Stefan

I see... any particular reason why they would try to limit that? Seems kinda arbitrary and create a pretty huge annoyance for students.

Hello Elena34,
Apologies but I am not sure I can understand your latest question. Would you please clarify what you have in mind when you ask if "they are trying to limit that" - whom do you have in mind and what is the limitation you imply?
Regards,
Stefan

I believe what she was asking (and what I'd like to know) is why the logical page number feature is not available in the Viewer. This is very basic functionality that is available with the free versions of other viewers (e.g. Acrobat & Foxit readers etc.). This is indeed a very unfortunate limitation of an otherwise good product.

Gary

Hi Gary,
Thanks for your post. Yes indeed this is not available in every tool in the Viewer, but the pages thumbnails should show the logical page numbers, and the new upcoming Editor will have full logical numbers support.
Regards,
Stefan

Re: Ebooks page number not correct
Hi all,
The Editor is actually Version 3 of the Viewer, it has just been renamed to reflect its headline functionality of performing direct content editing. This is why this isn't likely to be implemented in the Viewer - a very large majority of (if not all) the new features will not be implemented in the Viewer as it will soon be an old and outdated Version. Sales for the Viewer will stop, once the Editor is released for sale (though it will still be available as a free download).
So it's only a limitation in the sense that you're being limited by an old Version.
Cheers, hope that helps!
