Welcome to our forums.
I am afraid that I can't see the full image and this thumb is really unclear.
Also in my Windows Explorer I can't select "properties" field at all - so what's the exact name of the Field that you wanted to show us on your image?
Thanks for the approval of the topic!
It's very important to me and many other people too!
We need to edit and view in Windows shell the following tags:
Title; Subject; Author; Keywords; Category; Manager; Company; Comments + User Fields.
I'm tried the:
- PDF-Shell Tools (rttsoftware.com) - paid and solves the problem only partially
- File Metadata (filemeta.codeplex.com) - don't work
- File Metadata. NET control (www.filebuzz.com/fileinfo/132804/FileMe ... ntrol.html) - don't work
- WIC codecs (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Imaging_Component) - not found
- etc.
All hope for you and your wonderful PDF-XChange Viewer!
Please take a look at the attached image. It shows the Title, Author and Subject fields for files that do have them, and Categories, Comments and Company were empty for me but I am not sure whether this is due to the Shell Extension not gathering this information or simply because there is no such info in those files. The rest of the fields that you listed (Keywords, Manager, User Fields) are simply not available for me to choose in windows at all.
Regards,
Stefan

Would we be able to have you send over one or two of the files that don't display the information? I'd like to see whether or not the data is actually contained in the file and, if it is, see if we can determine why it's not displaying in File Explorer. To the best of my knowledge, I believe that it should be if it's in the document.
If you are willing to send the files and wish to upload them here, please make sure that they are packaged in a ZIP folder, or they will be rejected by our filters. If you don't want them available online but don't mind us viewing them, then you could send them to us via an email, with a link back to this topic - support@pdf-xchange.com.
Cheers, let me know!
If posting files to this forum, you must archive the files to a ZIP, RAR or 7z file or they will not be uploaded.
Thank you.

Attached is a sample file and what I see in windows explorer for that file.
You can check all the properties I've entered for that file when you open it in our Viewer and go to File -> Document properties (Ctrl-D).
Best,
Stefan

I am using the Shell Extension that comes with our own Viewer. It reads the data inside the file - and lets windows display it. I have not used any third party products nor can I provide advise on products like the File Metadata you are trying to use.
Simply remove the .pdf file name extension from the ones "Metadata" handles, download and install our Viewer, reboot windows, and you should start seeing the same information I do on my screenshots.
2 more questions.
Can you add 2 fields to PDF - Category and Comments?
And how I can programmatically refer to the PDF Handler?
It's necessary to fill in the properties at ~1000 PDF files from a given list...
Is it possible to write a BAT/VBS-file?
The shell Extension is not designed to be controllable externally, so you can't refer to it or access it. As for the two fieds you need - I guess you can still populate this data using e.g. your "Metadata" tool - but then again - this would be stored in the NTFS tables and when you move the files you will lose this information. The PDF specification is pretty strict as to what "additional" information is to be stored inside the PDF file itself, so if it's not already added I don't believe we can add it in the future.
