Although I have AdobeSongStd-Light.otf font installed in windows (I can select this font in Font Selection dialog), PDF-XChange Viewer is still choose a font that is not intend to display PDF(Other PDF viewers select "SimSun" font, which is better than PDF-XChange Viewer, but still not a appropriate choice.)

Hi roytam1,

Thanks for the post - in most cases, font substitution is all personal preference, as I don't believe that there is any international standard governing font substitution in PDF files, so if you're the author of the document, then I would suggest either embedding the font, or a subset of that font, which should then allow you to avoid the issue completely.

Also, it may be worth noting that we are intending to implement the ability for users to define their own font substitution table, in the Editor, thereby eliminating any potential discrepancies in the future.

Hope that helps!
If posting files to this forum, you must archive the files to a ZIP, RAR or 7z file or they will not be uploaded.
Thank you.

Problem is that, I don't create such PDF files.
As a normal user, I just want to view such PDF file with correct fonts.

Hi roytam1,

Font substitution is a matter of personal preference, so there isn't necessarily any 'correct' font here - in such cases, we're forced to make desicion on what font should be used in place of original. This is why we intend to implement the ability for users to define their own font substitution table in the Editor as, if we were to change the font that we use to suit your preference, then we may find that others are now unhappy with the new font choice. I'm afraid that, unless there's an issue with incorrectly displayed characters, then this isn't something that we're likely to change in the Viewer, so the implementation of the user defined font substitution table in the Editor would be the best solution that we can offer.

Cheers,

Actually it does.
And another bug is that, in testg.pdf shows that XChange Viewer doesn't print vertical CJK text correctly(the … mark), and place punctuation marks correctly.

Hi roytam1,

Could you please provide a sample of the PDF that you have annotated to show exactly where the rendering issues lie?

As for the printing issue, could you please try the Editor? The printing engine has been entirely re-written and so is generally far better than the Viewer, so it may be that the issue resolved in the Editor. Here's a download link:

Cheers, let me know how this goes!

Hi roytam1,

Is it just the periods that the Viewer is rendering incorrectly (or not at all)? Also, did you give the Editor a try?
