Paste Excel Range into a New PDF Document

Post by BazzaBoy »

I can copy a range from MS Excel and paste it into a new blank PDF Document created in PDF-XChange Viewer, but it loses all its formatting and only the text gets pasted.

Is there a way of pasting a range of cells from Excel into a new PDF document, so that it looks exactly like the range of cells I copied, say convert it into a bitmap before pasting or something like that?

I know, I can always print the Excel range to PDF using a PDF printer. I am just trying to simplify things.

I need to do this quite often, so any help will be appreciated.

Hello BazzaBoy,

I am afraid that there's no such feature currently in our products, and due to the different nature of the file formats I am not quite sure how easy (or even possible) this is to implement. I will discuss this with our devs and if possible - I will see to add this feature request in our system. However even if possible and approved - it's most likely to be a long term one.

Regards,
Stefan

Thanks Stefan,

Currently, I copy the range from Excel, paste it into Irfanview (to convert it to a bitmap), then copy the bitmap and paste it into PDF-XChange Viewer.

If the intermediate stage can be omitted, it would become so much simpler, cut out the middle-man, so to speak.

Regardless, I am a total fan of your product and your willingness to take suggestions on board, increases my desire to recommend it to my friends/acquaintances.

Regards.

Hi BazzaBoy,

No way for the moment to skip that "middle man" step unfortunately.
If you copy from excel and paste in our new PDF-X Editor:

The data would be pasted in columns, though there are some small arrows visible and it's still all pasted as a single block of text.

In Excel (2007 / 2010) you can take a copy (of a selection) under form of a picture :
- select the area that you want to copy
- at the right of the Copy icon, you have a little triangle, click on this
- now you will see the option "Copy as Picture...", click on this
- leave the Appearance to "As shown on screen" and at Format, select "Bitmap", click OK

Now you should be able to directly paste this into your PDF:
- so, switch to your PDF-document in PDF-XChange Viewer and click Edit > Paste

N.B.: Even in Excel 2003 you could 'copy as picture', but I think you had to Shift+click on the Edit menu, or click (strangely enough) besides the Paste button, to find this option. I do not have Excel 2003 anymore on my computer, so I can not check anymore how it exactly was.

Thanks for that Willy

I didn't know you could copy/paste from Excel as images like this,. Nice.

BazzaBoy, why not use the PDF-XChange Printer to create a text based PDF directly? If you have a license for the Viewer/Editor it will also unlock the PDF-XChange Lite Printer 2012.

Thanks Guys,

I think I'll go with Willy's idea for now. That sounds to be a nice way of achieving what I want.

Of course, clarity takes a beating, but I am sure someone will come up with a better solution any time now.

Thanks again.

Best Regards.

Unbelievable. I have been using Excel for years and still didn't know about the "copy as picture" feature. Awesome suggestion Willy!
