Install new MSI package over old one

Post by roei brauner »

Hi,

Pdf xchange Viewer v2.5.214.1 is installed (MSI installation).

I tried to install the new one v2.5.214.2, and got this error:

"Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel"

So, How to install the new MSI package?

Hi Roei,

You will need to uninstall the previous build before you can install the new one.

Will I loose all settings, and need to set it again (Including the license key)?

Hi Roei,

No, most (if not all) settings will persist, but you can also use the Edit -> Export settings option to save all your current ones to a separate file, and then import them back after the reinstall.

Thank you for the answer.

I use Desktop Central to deploy software and patch's to all my pc's, so export/import settings for every single PC is not relevant.

What is the right way to deploy new/updated PDF Xchange Viewer to multiple PC's?

Hi Roei,

Will this help?
https://help.pdf-xchange.com/EUM/de ... es_for_msi

Then after deployment is complete - call the Viewer once for each user with the following parameter:
PDFXCview.exe /importp <setting_file_name>
Where the setting_file_name is a shared settings file, and all should be well.

Thank you very much.

So - each time there is a new version, I need to uninstall the current one and install the new one? doesn't make sense.

Hi Roei,

We do also have patch files:
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/version ... ge-viewer/
Though the last I can see is from build 213 to 214, and not sure if that means 214.2 and you are upgrading from 214.1 as well, soo in this case an uninstall and reinstall might be needed, as 214.1 and 214.2 are technical builds fixing some bugs.

Regards,
Stefan
