Not able to highlight non ocr pages

Post by jarathna »

Hi,
I do not know whether it is the default behavior. I am not able to highlight non ocr pages with PDFXchange View free version. Also some characters in the ocr pages are not getting highlighted.

Thanks and regards

Hi jarathna,

Is the file in question security protected?
Also please note that you should not provide all the end user Viewer functionality in your web page integration - The Viewer AX embedded in a page should be just a helper to your website's main features and not the main one.

Thanks Stefan!!!

I got your question. And I was not using the AX control for this purpose. I had the XChange viewer free desktop version with "Display in Browser" selected for this purpose. The AX Control API is only used to open the document to read the annotation and store it in a database. Our main requirement is the PDF-Xchange viewer to annotate document.
To your question the file is not security protected.

Now for my question:

1) There are certain words we are unable to select in the same OCR document. Dont know why? But when I OCred it again I was able to select. Why? This happens at random.

2) The non OCR version of the same document I was unable to select anything. But when I OCRED it with the Image option the file grew to 13 MB from about 2MB. After that I was able to select.

This XChange viewer is the tool that we need and are evaluating. We are using a free Java based product now but are facing intermittent problems with the JVM. Also your tool is much superior

Thanks and regards

Hi jarathna,

Thanks for the post!

You may need to set a higher accuracy setting. Could you try this and let me know how it goes?

You cannot select any text or highlight, because there is likely no text present in the document, only an image of text. As far as the file size increase goes, that does sound a little much. Could you please send a copy of the document, both before it was OCR'd and after?

Cheers,

Thank you.

Thanks for your advice.
"You may need to set a higher accuracy setting."

Has it to do with dpi setting?
If so what value should I test with?

Thanks and regards

Hi JK,

I believe the Accuracy setting will is referring to is the one from the attached image.

Also if you can provide us with a copy of the original 2MB file - we can try to OCR here at our end and check how bit it will become.
I suspect your size increase is due to e.g. the original image being say 150 DPI, and you've then chosen to "Rasterize All content" and have set the DPI to 300+ which will quadruple the document size easily.

Stefan

Hi JK,

Maybe that was an error in an older build that is now resolved!
Anyway - glad to hear the problem is not present any more.
Do let us know if it happens again!

Cheers,
Stefan
