Re: What is Adobe icon doing on PDF-Xchange window
Hi bawldiggle,
well I am going to have to admit to it, that is us not Adobe...
We put a quick launch for Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat if we find it is installed on your system. It will also show and launch the Editor if installed:

I hope that helps.

Hi Paul
Adobe is an irritation, especially with adware when updating Flash.
I would be glad to be free of Adobe Reader (but I need Flash)
Can I safely uninstall Adobe Reader and embrace PDF-XChange ?
Thank you

Hi bawldiggle,
The only reason that you should absolutely need to use Adobe, would be if a document is secured using a security handler that is specific to Adobe; that is, one that Adobe do not share the details of with us, so we're unable to support it. Cases such as that are rare though, so you should be fine to give it a try

If posting files to this forum, you must archive the files to a ZIP, RAR or 7z file or they will not be uploaded.
Thank you.

Re: What is Adobe icon doing on PDF-Xchange window
Thanks Will,
I don't know the technical difference between "locked" and "secured" PDF files, but I do use online unlockers.
Some handbooks, specifications etc come "locked" ... so I cannot comment or highlights ... unless the file is unlocked.
Then I "lock" the finished modified file to prevent my comments/highlights from being accidentally deleted.
We don't have any gold-bars under the mattress ...
I will reluctantly retain Adobe (shades of Microsoft wanting it all)
Regards

Re: What is Adobe icon doing on PDF-Xchange window
Hi bawldiggle,
The "locked" files come with the security limitations inside the files themselves and those are conforming to the PDF specification. We will support such files. What Will had in mind is files that require e.g. a specific Adobe plug-in or are contacting Adobe's servers to validate some form of a license before the file can be opened. We won't be able to support such files unless Adobe makes available some information for developers that we can use to implement the needed checks.
A similar security handler that we support is FileOpen. It is a third party tool and we've been working with it's developers to allow the Editor to open files protected with it.
Regards,
Stefan
