Is there a way to turn off "smart" copy/paste in bookmarks?
Hi, I'm having trouble with cutting or copying text and pasting into bookmark labels to make them quickly without loads of extra typing. Is there a way to turn off the "smart" feature that selects the entire bookmark and overwrites the text or creates a new (unwanted) bookmark upon a paste attempt? I looked thru the Preferences option but did not see any place to turn off smart cut/paste so that I can insert text into an existing bookmark. Did I miss it, or am I trying to do something that can't be done in this version or is there some other trick I'm missing? Thanks for your help!

Hi AMM,
thanks for the post. I'm not sure I completely understand the issue. You should be able to rename/select the text in the bookmarks by the character or anything as you would in any other text selection scenario.
Perhaps it is something different that you mean? The way that text is selected when changing the text of a bookmark is actually Windows functionality that is inherited. We don't control how the text is selected and you should expect to see the same thing in Windows Explorer or Notepad etc.
Am I missing something here?

Re: Is there a way to turn off "smart" copy/paste in bookmar
Thanks Paul,
ok, well if the behavior is inherited from Windows (Win 7 in my case), then there may be nothing I can do to fix it then. It's a weird issue - I go to a bookmark & select a bit of text, then when I right click it to select cut or copy, it auto selects the entire bookmark - I can never just grab the bit of text I want. Similar thing happens for pasting - I can get in the bookmark text/title field where I want to insert the text, place my cursor there, and when I right click to paste, it auto selects the whole bookmark - I can never paste into the title/text field that way. So if I then try to hit "paste", it just creates a whole new bookmark below the one I'm trying to paste text into. I tried using the buttons for cut-copy-paste & they do the same thing as the right-click method does. So strange.
Thanks again for your help!

Hi AMM,
Thanks for the post - this is extremely strange, as I've just tried this here and it works. Could you please go to Help --> About and tell me the build number that you're using?
Cheers,

Looks like I have Version 2.5 Build 195.0
I will look around a bit and see if I can find some obscure Windows setting that may be the culprit, but oddly I don't have this issue in Win Explorer, etc.
Thanks,
Anna

Hi AMM,
I suspect that issue here is actually that you're using a much older build of the Viewer. Please try downloading and running the following installer to update:

Re: Is there a way to turn off "smart" copy/paste in bookmar
Thanks for the link
I have downloaded the latest build & tried the same action on the updated version - still having the issue when attempting to edit bookmarks from the bookmarks sidebar. However I did find a workaround, as when I right-clicked, I saw the last entry is "Bookmark Properties". If I click on that, it will allow me to copy and/or paste the text in that way. So 2 extra clicks per bookmark to save lots and lots of typing... guess I can live with that.
I may still try turning off the smart copy/paste text features in MS Word and see if that fixes the issue the next time I log on - if it does, I'll post a follow up.
Best,
-Anna
