Adobe Reader not recognised on one machine
We use pdf xchange viewer as our default viewer rather than adobe. however there are some movable 3d pdfs that we have to open in adobe reader. On some of our machines, when you open the file in xchange, it comes up as a blank page and then there is the adobe icon in the bottom of the screen to open it in adobe. however on our terminal server, although the latest version of xchange viewer and adobe reader XI is installed, xchange viewer says that there is no other reader loaded and will not let us use this function which is very annoying to our users. can you suggest how to resolve this

Re: Adobe Reader not recognised on one machine
Thanks this is helpful. however we have identified the problem on our terminal server, and the function works fine when logged in as an administrator, but when logged in as a standard user, xchange viewer thinks that there are no other viewers installed even though you can right click on the pdf in explorer and choose to open with adobe reader which works fine. how can i get the function working direct from xchange viewer available to all users.

Hi Snosrap

- This is all on the same machine and always through RDP?
- The only difference is account permissions?
- Are you in an AD managed domain and do you see this with domain admins/domain users or are these local admin/local users?

Re: Adobe Reader not recognised on one machine
Hi again Snosrep,
can you also tell me the value found in the registry for the Adobe install path?

To find installed Acrobat/Acrobat Reader, the Editor checks
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\xx.xx\InstallPath (for the Reader) and HKLM\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat\xx.xx\InstallPath (for Acrobat).
If the value exists and represents a valid path, the Editor checks does a file 'Acrobat.exe' or 'AcroRd32.exe' present in this folder.
If it does, we decide that we have installed Acrobat (or reader) version xx.xx
