All tools are grayed out

I downloaded PDF XChange viewer v 2.5 today, I was under the impression that adding text to a .pdf file is available with the free version. However, all of the tool buttons are grayed out, sticky note, typewriter, text box, all of them. I have it set to where PDF XChange is the default program that opens all .pdf files.

Is the adding text only available in the paid versions, or is there something that I'm doing wrong?

Welcome to the forum!

The problem you are encountering is that there is likely security on the document. To see if there is security on the document use:

Ctrl+d-->Security

You are also using and old product. though this is likely not the cause of this issue, I highly recommend that you download the latest build of the PDF-XChange Editor in trial mode.
