Linking to a Bookmark

Post by jcaiken »

I can link to a page within the current file, or a named view within the file. It would be useful to be also able to link to a bookmark within the file.

Hi jcaiken,

A bookmark can link to many things i.e.: a page within the current document, a web URL, etc.

If you want a bookmark to reference another bookmark, both bookmarks need to reference the same object (same page within the current document, same web URL, etc.). In the case of links to pages within the current document, for each bookmark you need to specify a Named Destination (a destination point within the document).

Let's say Bookmark1 points to Destination Point1. If we want to create a new Bookmark called Bookmark2 that points to same place than Bookmark1, we need to specify a Destination Point1 as the Named Destination for Bookmark2. Thus, both bookmarks will link to the same destination and indirectly will link to each other.

Hope this answers your question.

Unfortunately my question may have been mis-stated.

I use the reader/editor to work with a single pdf file in which each page is a separate process flow drawing and has the drawing reference number in the bookmark for each page/drawing.
Each drawing shows only part of the whole process and continuation references to the next drawing in the flow-path are shown at the left and right edges of each page.

At each drawing reference I would like to create a link to the appropriate drawing/page within the file. This is possible by using the link action to go to the appropriate page number within the file, but I would like to have the option to use the bookmark when defining the page link as this would make the process a lot easier.
