Text alignment with typewriter

Post by Cowboy »

Howdie Folks,

I just bought the Pro-Bundle because I have to do some editing in electrical schematics. For most textual changes in the document I use the typewriter to create small labels which I lay over the text I want to hide or I use "Change content" to remove what needs to be removed. This works pretty well so far.
BUT:
When there is a typewriter label with the text alignment set to left there is no problem. When the text alignment is set to center or right, the text frame expands to the right edge of the document.
When there are no changes done, it goes back to the size I created it in the beginning. When changes are done, it remains expanded to the right edge of the document and has to be resized manually after changing the text.

I couldn´t imagine that this function should behave like this.
I use the current version 306.1 in German language on Windows 7 Prof. 64 bit

So long,
Thomas

Hi Thomas,

Welcome to our forums!

Could you please attach a sample file illustrating the problem?

Hi BPTST,

Thanks for your report as well. I just tested myself and managed to reproduce the issue - so I am going to pass this to our devs now for further investigation and fixing.

Verion 308.1 (June 3,2014) on my PC still shows this annoying behaviour - should it be fixed already ?

Hi LemonBanana,

Actually after speaking with the devs they've told us that this is the intended behaviour:

But due to feedback from not only yourself - we are considering what can be done here.

Hi Stefan,

Thank you for your reply and Link.
I got the idea and difference between Typewriter and TextBox now which I missed before.

Developers should restrict usage of container funcions for the Typewriter tool to communicate their intention.

Would this behaviour reflect the intention:

*) When selecting the TypewriterTool-> Click and Type - no way to draw a container

*) When selecting a TypewriterObject-> restrict all containersize operations - only move operations are allowed. Actual boxboundary is automatically the opposite pageboundary of the chosen alignment. Tricky with Center/Justify -> propably let user choose between Farest or nearest pageboundary(or Jutify/Center is strictly CenterOfPage).

best regards
