Alternate PDF viewer

Post by DrTeeth »

I have just noticed an icon in the lower right of the window which shows when a PDF is opened. When I hover my mouse cursor over it the help says "No Alternate PDF viewer available". I have several programs that can be used as PDF viewers (PDF X-Change Editor being one of them :D ) so how can I configure this icon to show them?

Regards

Hi DrT,

Thanks for the post - can you tell me what build of the Viewer you're using (Help --> About). Older builds of the Viewer weren't able to call the Editor, but the newer builds should be able to.

It's very likely that a re-installation will enable the Viewer to call Adobe and the Editor:
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/PDFXVwer.zip (New protection system)
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/PDFXVwer_307.zip (Old protection system)

Do note that the Viewer and Editor are both only designed to be able to call each other and Adobe.

Cheers,

Hi Will,

I am using the latest builds of both the Editor and Viewer. The viewer version is 2.5.308.2.

Should the viewer automatically pick up the editor or can it be manually configured?

Hi DrT,

I've just discussed this quickly with one of the Devs. and he's actually told me that the Viewer wasn't actually designed to work with the Editor in this way. It should be picking up any of Adobe's readers that you have installed (Pro, Reader, etc.), but will also pick up whatever else is your default reader, i.e. the Editor. If you set the Editor to the Default, the Viewer should then register that it's there. Apologies, I wasn't aware of this previously.

Cheers,

Okay Will, that is fine. I expected to be able to add readers manually (which would be handy). No biggie.

With kindest regards
