Preferences dialog top is off the screen

Post by jcarerra »

Just installed and trying it out and started to set preferences.
The dialog opens with the top completely off the screen.
The highest part I can see is the line "Page Display".
I cannot reach the edge to drag it down.

How can I get it onto the screen?

Hi jcarerra,

Thanks post - could you please follow the directions in this KB and see if they help?

May I ask what happened to my previous reply here?

Suggestions in the link...
Lowering resolution enlarges everything everywhere.
And 8pt font is too small for me.

Hi jcarerra,

I'm not sure what happened to the reply. It's possible that it was mistaken as spam and was wrongly removed. Apologies for any inconvenience!

Perhaps the article should be made clearer but, in a nutshell, it suggests increasing the resolution to a minimum of 1024 x 768, if you currently have it set lower. Could you please detail the font size and resolution that you have your monitor set at?

Also, could you please provide a screen-shot of how the Preferences dialogue appears on your machine?

Cheers,

I don't know want you mean by font size "monitor set at"? The both OS and individual programs have font settings all over the place.

image attached...see the top of the window completely offscreen upward

Oops again.
I can't figure out the image attaching. I did it as a zip, and selected "in-line," but it isn't showing. It appears to be attached though, so I will have to give up on figuring out image insertion.

I think Will means the settings in your Win 7 (if you have Win 7) - see attchment.

Yes, it is written in the footnote. You have to pack it into a ZIP (also images)

Hi guys,

Thanks for pitching in Peter - that's exactly it. I wasn't referring to the monitor font size, but your System's (Windows) font settings and the resolution that you have set on the monitor that you are seeing the problem on.

Just for info:

I use Win 7 x64 on a dual monitor, both 1280x1024 pixel. My display (Windows) is set to "125%", the preferences dialogue in Viewer 2.5 308.2 needs 751x651 pixel.

The screenshot of jcarerra preferences has a width of 980px, so its height is 849px - and this is too high for the existing 768px.

But it is still missing which display-settings and which computer-system (XP? Win7? other?) he uses.

"the resolution that you have set on the monitor that you are seeing the problem on."

1366 x 768 is the resolution --as stated before

"your System's (Windows) font settings"

I am still at a loss as to exactly what font setting you are looking for. There must be 50 places in Windows where fonts can be set...well in Windows 8.1 that's down to about 20. If you will please give me the click by click steps to see it, I will happily provide it.

"But it is still missing which display-settings and which computer-system (XP? Win7? other?) he uses."
I am using a Toshiba S55-A5176 Windows 8.1, i7 laptop, 15.6 inch screen, 16:9 shape.
Again, I do not know what display-settings you are asking for other than the resolution already provided...very happy to provide, but I need to know what precisely it is you want--more specifically than "display settings." I can dig out the gamma and things like that, but I don't think that is what you want--but I don't know what you want.

Have you looked at my screenshot above? This could be one of the important settings.

Peter
On that screen, I have the 100% button clicked.

In the popdown for font selections below that, all items are set to 12,
except icons and tooltips are set to 11.

Hi jcarerra,

This was an issue that could not be solved for the Viewer, so I'm afraid that the only options here, are to either follow the suggestions in the KB article, or use the Editor.

I installed the editor, and the preferences Window fits on the screen;
it does fill it top to bottom, but all of it is visible.
I would suggest you do it the same way in the viewer as in the editor.

I will just use the editor.

The Editor has replaced the Viewer and very few, if any, further changes will be made to the Viewer, as it is no longer supported.

As I was installing the editor, I was wondering why the viewer was needed, since the editor does that plus more...unless it was a significantly smaller app which some people might like.

Appreciate y'all's inputs.

Off to uninstall the viewer.
