Issues with "Override Document Colors" feature:

Hello!
First there's some sort of bug. I set both viewer and editor's line draw colors to the same as the background color but I get different results:

Neither of them works particularly well, as show in the image viewer looks right for this image but not for others:

Also compared to foxit something else's wrong too:
(Transparency maybe?)


Also bitmap support is sorely lacking. A lot of documents have image inserts And they just stay white.

Foxit clearly performs better in color replacement.

PS: The lack of an 'apply' button is really frustrating if you want to experiment with options that change the appearance.

Thanks for the post and sample - I've been looking at this here, with a pre-release of build 309 and the issue seems to be fixed. We are hoping to release 309 within the next week or so, provided all goes smoothly.

Regarding the Apply button, I can put in a request to add this, or some other method of previewing changes.

As for uploading images, this was disabled as we were having issues with some... less than desirable content being published. Images can, however, be posted, provided that they are hosted on a web server. As far as I'm given to understand, this shouldn't be dependant on the type of image, usually they just need to be wrapped in a ZIP folder or RAR/7Zip archive.

I tried the new version. It works exactly the same way as the previous one.

PS:
Sumatra PDF seems to do this the best, if you set the colors in the config file. It processes both bitmaps and vector images appropriately and unlike foxit doesn't transform colored images into monochrome.

About replacing colors in images - it is not a good idea, as you can see how looks in Foxit the first page of your last sample:

I disagree. You only see the cover once for a book for example. You can en/disable the feature for then.
But it can be done better. I don't know how but Sumatra PDF doesn't touch coloured images but processed black/white images.

Hello again avada,

I just had a conversation with Ivan.
He said that he received your files and can see the different ways in which our Editor and Foxit are implementing colour replacement.
Our products are however using similar methods to what Adobe are using and actually we have more flexibility. There are also no unexpected results as in some cases with Foxit where at some occasions they transform colours when they are supposed to replace them.

We will see if we can improve our own implementation further adding more options, but for the moment there are more pressing tasks so we can't give any estimate.

It doesn't matter which I set the fill color or the stroke color. Something is hidden. Also there's the bitmap image that seems to be affected. Furthermore I'm not sure if the bitmap appears properly by default, with an other pdf viewer it has colors. With XE it's blue/monochrome.

PDF-XE: (Either graphics or text are hidden.)




Sumatr-PDF: (Image has colors and nothing gets hidden, bitmaps processed)



In my opinion SumatraPDF handles coloured bitmaps best. They blend in well with the pages and don't stick out.

This is definitely Ivan's area here and your input is appreciated. He will do what he can in the time frame appropriate for the other tasks he has at hand. I can't promise what will ensue from this discussion or when but it is definitely being taken into consideration.

Actually not. SumatraPDF does not support Luminosity blend mode specified for that image and, in result, renders that image differently that other PDF viewer - Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Reader, Foxit Reader, BlueBeam, etc.

Outside that then. I suspected that might be a bug/flaw.
The smaller colored images under that one for example. They are not grey-scaled like with foxit, and don't look out of place as they do when they are left unprocessed.
