Read/Write access with multiple users

Just noticed this recently. If a document is opened by one user and a second user opens the document there is no notification that the document is already in use. We have gotten into the situation where multiple users are marking up a document and then can't save. Are there plans to provide "Document In Use" warnings? Is it possible to tell if the document you've opened is already in use?
