Hello everybody,
I have just formatted my old laptop (8 years old, Windows vista) and reinstalled all software.
However, I have got major problems with installing the PDF-XChange Viewer 2.5.311 (German). Whenever I click on the exe file, nothing happens. There is no error message or anything else. The system simply does not react. The same is true for other PDF software such as the Foxit Reader or the PDF24 Creator (always newest versions compatible with Vista). Thus, I thought that I am lacking any required environment (e.g. the NET framework, but also this installation did not help).
Have you maybe any idea what I could do? Any hint would be highly appreciate.
Thank you very much,
Tester2k3

Hello Tester2k3,
Welcome to our forums. This is rather unusual, as our .exe installations should contain inside them everything needed for you to run them and successfully install our products. And when you say this also happens with other software - what comes to mind is that maybe you have an incorrect association in Windows for the .exe file type. I am sure there would be lots of resources online that would help you get this fixed.
Regards,
Stefan

Hi Stefan,
thanks a lot for your quick reply. Very much appreciated.
The surprising is that other exe files (e.g. for Firefox, Winamp, Skype etc.) all work perfectly fine and open/install as soon as you click on them. It is just the exe files that deal with any PDF software/programs that do not react.
Does this make you think of any other error source?
Thank you and best regards

Hello Tester2k3,
Nothing specific that I can think of, but maybe your AntiVirus is interfering in this case?

Stefan

Hi Stefan,
thanks again for your follow-up. Antivirus can be excluded, too. I have tried to install the software with antivirus inactive, but no success either
.
Best regards

Then I am our of ideas Tester2k3,
This seems to be specific to your machine, and is affecting other installation packages as well, so it does not seem like a problem at our end. I hope you will manage to figure it out, and sorry that I can't help further.
Regards,
Stefan
