Focus is lost

When I use Alt-Tab to switch from PDF-Editor to another window, and then Alt-Tab back to PDF-Editor, the editor window has lost focus and I need to click on it with a mouse. It would be nice if it kept the focus so that we could use only the keyboard.

Hello Vilis,

Can you please go to Help -> About and check which build of the Editor you are using.
The current latest is 5.5.313.1 and if I remember correctly this was an older issue that has already been addressed.

Windows 8.1 It does not have service packs, right?

I am unable to reproduce the issue here on my machine, so can you please try to do a clean install of the Editor, and also check and make sure if your Windows 8.1 is up to date, and then let us know if the problem persists?

Hi, sorry for the long delay, but it's that it was not that important to me. Sorry!

Recently I've downloaded 6.0 build 318.1 in the same machine, and with the default settings it still happens.

A not usual characteristic of my Windows setup that perhaps could be related to the issue is that I use "focus follows mouse", a la UNIX. But with PDF X-Change Viewer in Windows XP I had the same "focus follows mouse" behaviour and the error did not happen.

Hi @all, just for completeness, it should be possible to work around this problem on Windows 10 by activating this setting:

Windows 10 Tip: Scroll Inactive Windows

This is even better IMHO than the somewhat irritating "X-Mouse" aka "Active Window Tracking" aka "Focus Follows Mouse" because it does not actually activate the window under the mouse pointer (only scrolls it, if needed).

Up to now I've gone back to the old Viewer version, without having that problem. But I was already very satisfied with Viewer...

Yes, I managed to replicate the problem.

My have my own code to access particular programs (Press Win+D = go to program A) and if I press one of that keyboard shortcuts to go to program A, and if I later press Alt-Tab to return to PDF X-Change Editor, I have the problem. If I only use Alt-Tab and Alt-Tab again, the focus is OK in PDF X-Change Editor.

I don't bore you with the code of my software because only by looking at it I realized it had two #WinActivateForce instructions there ^^U. Up to now I leave it to your super skills and expertise. If do you need anything else please tell.

so from your last post I am unclear as to whether you resolved the issue by removing the second instance of #WinActivateForce instructions or not.

Hi Paul,

no, it still does happen. I removed one of the WinActivateForce and it does still happen.

But I think I should work more on my bug report in order to help you, I have lots of keyboard shortcuts handled by Autohotkey. If you want I will improve the report, but this won't be soon.
