Distance tool, custom distance

Hello,
On the distance tool, I would like to choose and set the "custom" "X" = "X" (ie ... in = in) variable but when choosing "custom" it doesn't do anything. I would like to set a distance of .8 of an inch to 2,000 feet on the picture of a map and use the scale line on the map for reference. When measuring the distance line on the map it's .8 in according to the distance tool and according to the map that .8 in equals 2,000 feet.

Thanks for the post - are you setting this:


If so, then that behaviour makes sense - this is really setting the scale, so that .08 inches measured on the page, is equal to 2000 inches.

If I've misunderstood, can you please send screen-shots or any sample PDF that demonstrates what you mean?
