Basic questions about formating text

Post by terrypin »

Hi, Must be years since I last posted. I'm only an occasional user so I expect the questions I've asked below have embarrassingly obvious answers.

I saved a file as a PDF and opened it in PDF XChange Viewer 2.0 (Build 37.2). I wanted to underline a single word and, despite this program apparently being called a 'Viewer', the tools for text formatting (and indeed other editing) all seem to be available. Somehow (I can't repeat it!) I managed to add this underline.

Image

Why is it green and how do I change that colour to a default of black? Why is it badly positioned, instead of underneath the text? And how do I remove it? Ctrl+Z didn't work. And what exactly is the procedure for using these text formatting tools please?

Any advice would be much appreciated please.

Hi Terry,

you are using an extraordinarily old build and I would strong suggest you update to a later build - but this time of the Editor ...

https://www.pdf-xchange.com/product ... nge-editor

Similar rules to the Viewer for free use exist - also the editing features are much more 'expansive'

cheers

Thanks John, appreciate the fast reply.

Duly installed the free version of PDFXEdit.exe and now familiarising myself with it. Initially a bit confused when using the text content editing tool by a message that said something like the feature "was available ... because my licence doesn't allow it". Is that just a typo, or what? Yet I proceeded to underline the word and also to change the colour of another section of text. So maybe it it really meant to say something like "This feature is available with some limitations. Full functionality comes with the paid version."

Hi Terry,

All features are available for use in the Editor, regardless of whether or not you have a license, but the use of features marked with a 'Pro' symbol will watermark your documents upon saving, if no license is present.

The Edit Content tool is free to use when editing text only. If moving, resizing, etc. images, a license is required otherwise documents will be watermarked.

To answer your initial question on the underline - this was done by the Underline Tool (Tools --> Comment and Markup Tools --> Underline Tool) and the colour can be changed by enabling the Properties Toolbar (Ctrl + E or View --> Toolbars --> Properties Toolbar). Once enabled, the properties of the tool/annotation can be changed by enabling the tool, or selecting the annotation, and changing the options that will then appear on the toolbar.

Cheers,
