Vanishing typewriter notes

My wife uses the Viewer to add notes to medical forms with the Typewriter tool. She then saves the PDF to Dropbox, where she picks it up with her iPhone to add a signature.

A few times lately she's done this only to find that the typewriter notes have disappeared. Sometimes the notes can be visible in the Viewer, and when she goes to print the document, the notes have disappeared from the printout. It seems that the notes are still in the document, but under some circumstances they just aren't visible.

Is there any obvious reason why this should be happening? Is this a font problem somewhere?

Thanks for the post - this is a problem with iPhone PDF reader. I'm not sure whether they advertise support for annotations, but my understanding is that, if they do, they don't do it very well.

I would recommend that you have your wife download and use another PDF reader app on her phone. I'd recommend Adobe Reader, as we do not have an iOS compatible reader/editor.

Thanks for the suggestion. I think she was using an app called "Sign & Send". She did try the Adobe Reader app and it seemed to work better.

HOWEVER, we were seeing other weird things within the PDF-XChange Viewer even before the document ever got to the iPhone. For example, she would be viewing the page and the notes were all in place. When she tried to print the page, the print preview would show the page WITHOUT the notes, and if she actually printed it, the notes were absent. Stuff like that.

It seemed to be very erratic. The notes would come and go mysteriously. Of course, I observed all this over her shoulder as she was doing half a dozen things at once and windows were appearing and disappearing. So I might have missed something.

You'll need to make sure that she has the option to print both the document and markups enabled, as well as the option to print popups and notes:


Also, please be aware that the Viewer has been replaced by the Editor, so is no longer supported. I would recommend that you take a look at the Editor:

OK, thanks, I'll keep those tips in mind the next time I'm helping her.

I have been using the Editor for some time. My wife, though, gets to like something (like the Viewer) and then never wants to let it go for anything new. Despite my preaching!
