Forgot how to "hide" text SOLVED

I have the free version and I'm sure I had a way to cover up text and save/print the resulting doc so the hidden text won't print/show.

Got the white box over what I want to "erase" (tried twice, with text box and with rectangle). Looks fine until I look at it in print preview, and the underlying text is still displaying!

argh -- I must be missing a step... your help please

I think what you are looking for is the "Redaction" tool.Not sure if this available in the free version:

Thanks, I saw those docs when I did a search. There's no Edit or Redaction selections (not even grayed-out) on the menus. There's no "Print as image" in the print dialog.

I believe it involved printing a pdf file as a way of "flattening" the layers, but it doesn't seem to be working now so I must've forgotten a step (been awhile since I've done it).

If these menu items are greyed out, then you are either using an old release, or the document has security on it. Please make sure that you are using Version 6 Build 317 of the Editor:

If the update doesn't help, or you are already are using V6 Build 317, please check under File --> Document --> Properties --> Security, and under View --> Other Panes --> Signatures Pane.

It's not that those selections are grayed out -- they don't even appear at all in the menus.

I'm using version 2.5 of the Viewer. I believe I have hid text using the Viewer. I'm not even sure how to access the editor...

Just a last help to sparkles...

You have probably used the Comment Tools in (the old) PDF-XChange Viewer (actually replaced by PDF-XChange Editor).

When you draw a "Rectangle" (= one of the Comment Tools) over the text and you set the properties of that Rectangle with a Fill Color = white and a Stroke Color = white, then it will cover (= hide) the underlying text.

Now, the solution to your problem is when you are going to Print, in the Print dialog box at "Print Options" > Print, you must select "Document and Markups". If you only select "Document", then the comments will NOT be printed, and so, your text will not be hidden by the white rectangle.
