From some websites, the pdf just will not save with a pdf extension. This has been happening for a long time.
For example I tried to download a pdf from here http://www.opentext.com/2/global/produc ... -suite.htm
I have to save the file, then rename it with a pdf extension, then it opens fine.
Is this a problem with that particular website ? Any ideas ??
Why does file not save as "pdf" ?

Re: Why does file not save as "pdf" ?
Hi poached_please,
Yes the website has redirection code in it so it defaults to saving the htm of the page and not the PDF. So I would suggest clicking the link so the PDF opens in the browser, and once loaded use the File->Save As in the PDF-XChange Plugin menu to save a copy to yoru computer, the naming should then be correct when saving.

Thank you for the information.
Seems an odd thing to do, if it is supposed to be a pdf ....

It is commonly practiced among some websites to deter other websites from directly linking to their files.
But our Browser plugin knows it's a PDF once opened and will save it accordingly.
As on our website when you are downloading an installer, the link on webpage runs a script that serves the installer file for download so that Other websites aren't providing a direct download link that is taking from our bandwidth.
Best,
Chris

Re: Why does file not save as "pdf" ?
Chris
I must confess, I don't usually install the IE plugin because I don't like pdfs opening in the browser.
However, I just installed it and ticked to open in browser. Then when I clicked the pdf link it just did the same as usual, that is, it didn't open.
I should mention that I only have the free version of Xchange Viewer. Does that matter ?
"the PDF-XChange Plugin menu" .... do you simply mean when it opens in the browser ... ?

Hello poached_please,
As you say the browser plug-in is now installed, and you have went through the Viewer and selected
"Edit -> Preferences -> File Associations -> Display PDF in browser"
It should be working, but some settings in IE might be still preventing this.
Please check in Tools -> Manage Add-on's whether the "Browser Helper Object" is not disabled.
Best,
Stefan
