Default Printer Prefences Keep Changing

Alright...I set up my printer preferences in the control panel...I then go to print a document and change the fields from the print screen...now my default printer preferences reflect the changes I made on my print screen... So basically what I am saying is the pdf xchange printer will not hold my default preferences...what is the deal...

I know in version three everything held the defaults.....so what is going on with V4

Any help would be greatly appreciated..cuz this is driving me flippin nuts.....

Running windows 7 pro 64 bit....

Hi,

I am afraid I cannot reproduce this at all, I make changes and they are retained - please ensure :

1: You have the latest release installed (build 4.0191)

2: You do select 'Apply' after making the required changes

3: Before making your changes - ensure all applications are closed - then open and change on the Devices & Printers option in ther control panel as before.

I am running build 191...Yet it will not retain any of the info....Do you have any other thoughts.

I have tried a reinstall and it still wont hold the changes... I am at a loss...any thoughts would be greatly appreciated...

I have even tried to set pdf xchnage to my default printer...then reboot...but it still doesnt retain the defaults....

Hi,

Can you please confirm that all applications are closed when you make your default setting changes ?

Also some applications (e.g. MS Word) will override many settings and apply its own - based on the 'Page SetUp' options set - but this would not include the save location - so that would not explain that issue.

Also can you advise are you using PDF-XChange Lite, Standard or PRO ?

yes all applications are closed when I make the changes...

And I am using pro....

Hello procomp,

What type of account are you running that is causing you these problems?
Is it one with a limited access? As those changes are stored in the registry, you will need to be able to write there.

I am running as admin....and all of my other printers keep the defaults...

Can you try to export and then import a profile?
Do these "stick"?

Also are you using any FireWall on that machine and which is the AntiVirus soft you use?

V4 has too many preferences to fit them in DEVMODE, and, as a result it stores (most) in the registry. So, if you change your settings (except paper size, orientation, dpi) these changes will affect also default printer settings.

We are working on solution for V5, but it will be compromise - some settings should be stored in the registry in any case - we cannot fit them all in DEVMODE.

So what you are saying is there is no fix for this?

If so is there a previous version without all the extra settings that is compatible with windows 7 64bit I can use...

It wouldnt normally bother me except I change the destination or path to suit the project I am working on as well as the file name along with using watermarks. It becomes quite a pain to constantly check all of these areas...especially when I print several hundreds of pages each week...

I can do without all the extra settings as in version 3...but when I tried to load my previos version on here it said it was incompatable...

Ver3 is indeed not compatible with x64 Windows7.
And no we do not have any older builds of ver4.

For the moment I am not sure what a solution to offer - please try to disable (temporarily) both your FireWall, and the AntiVirus software (you can disconnect your internet as well if you want), and try to make the changes to our printing drivers - you said that you are using an admin account, so writing to the registry should not be a problem.

I hope this will allow you to make the desired changes.
