I have read in the userforum that it is possible to have links which are relative to the source-document. In this case it is easier to give the source document and all the other documents which you have links to, to other people or copy them to other computers.
But I just see the possibilitie to link to documents with the absolute address. I don't see an option to link to a relative addresses.
By the way in case of relative addresses it would be easier to select the documents you want to reference to.
Wouldn't be an idea to allow "backward-referencing": You are in a document and want to store the reference to this point in an another document where you store all your references?
The PDF-XChange Viewer is a fantastic tool and not only a "PDF-reader". From day to day I learn more possibilities to use in my daily work.

Re: relative link address
Hello Leo14,
When you open our Viewer and try to create a link, you do have the option to make a relative link like e.g.:
".\example1.pdf" - later on when you do hover over the link in your document it will be showing you the full path to the location of the linked file on your file system, but the link will in reality still be relative. Just move the file with the link to a new folder - and check that the "full path" has changed to reflect that the file is now in a new location.
So all you need to do is:
1) Add a link
2) Select in it's properties, the action to be "Open a file"
3) Make sure to type in a relative file path
4) Excuse my MS Paint skills

Best,
Stefan

Re: relative link address
Thank You,
this works, if I just want to open a Word document or something like that.
But I want to open a PDF document and want to have the same options that I have if I link to another PDF document. (Second option in the "Add" menu). In this Window there is no possibility to input a filename. You can only browse for the document you want to select.
I hope You understand my issue.

Re: relative link address
There is a misunterstanding. This dialog worked before to input relative links. The problematical dialog is the dialog where I can set a link to another pdf-file.
I attached the dialog window

Re: relative link address
Hello Leo,
Yes apologies for the confusion with my previous post.
Now after speaking with our Lead developer, he told me that even if you use the "Link to a page in another PDF" and the two files are with relative paths e.g. one is in
c:\documents\toc.pdf and the oher is in
c:\documents\tables\abc.pdf
those two paths would be considered relative, and the links created would be relative as well.
But if with the above example the second file is in
c:\new documents\tables\abc.pdf
this will not be considered a relative path, and the link will be stored with the absolute one.
Hope this clarifies the situation and will help you create your desired relative paths to another PDF document and page.
Cheers,
Stefan

Re: relative link address
Thank You, it works fine.
I didn't see this before, it works like I wanted it to work. A hint in the documentation on this fact will help other users who have the same intention. So You can build up a nice documentation with links to other pdfs.
It would be even better, if there would be the possibility to link to other pdfs with drag and drop. But for now I'm very happy with your information.
greetings
