Hello,
[New to this software so please forgive my ignorance]
I often receive room layout plans etc in a .pdf format, and whilst the scale is often different from file to file (and in some instances not even noted!) the one constent is that there is always something within the drawing which has the distance / measurement stated.
... Therefore (and I am sure I ahve seen it on other software) it would be 'most excellent' if it was possible to setup this tool based on a known measurement (taken from a feature on the drawing) so that from that point all other features could be measured.
Ps. Hope that makes sense!
R.

Re: Measuring/Distance Tool - Set from existing line detail?
Hi,
To be honest I cannot imagine how this can be done - searching for some random point on the page and somehow identifying its content as the scale - but if you care to ZIP and upload an example with the area with content annotated we will take a look and advise further.

If posting files to this forum - you must archive the files to a ZIP, RAR or 7z file or they will not be uploaded - thank you.

Hi there
http://www.filedude.com/download/XyjQYrqdnYf873c8077c
This shows a section from a .pdf, in other .pdf apps with measuring tools (I'm sure a colleague at work has it as part of an Adobe package), you can highlight the marked distance and tell the tool the distance. From then on whilst working on that document the tool then knows what other distances are.

Re: Measuring/Distance Tool - Set from existing line detail?
Hello R.
I am having some problems downloading this file (got a time out from the website once, and then the archive seems to be corrupted the second), but I believe I figured out what you are trying to achieve - use a given scale in the file and point e.g. the two ends of a ruler and tell the viewer that one cm on the scale equals e.g. 3 inches in reality.
If I am correct - this is something stalled for ver3 of the Viewer I am afraid.
Best,
Stefan

Re: Measuring/Distance Tool - Set from existing line detail?
Hello Stefan,
Thanks for your speedy response.
When is Ver 3 due for release
The idea is use the measure to mark out start point (a) and end point (b) then I tell it what the distance is which the .pdf already has marked up on it from an existing provided measurement , after this it tells me what the distance is on all future points A to B.
I just checked the link again it works, did you enter the security capture code, then hit the blue download link? It worked for me (internet explorer windows 7) and tried again on my iphone using safari again it works ok.
Oh well.
Ps. In this example the .pdf says it is scaled at 1:100 at A1, does your existing software allow a set up the measure tool accoridngly, if so, sorry how do i do it.

Re: Measuring/Distance Tool - Set from existing line detail?
Hello raylogic,
When you do know the exact scale - then yes it's really easy:
How do I specify the units to be used in the measuring tools?
My thoughts were for when you have e.g. a wall and you know it's length in real terms, but do not know the length on screen - a feature for such tuning up has been requested and it is stalled for after the intial release of ver3 of our Viewer.
Which features will certainly find their place in the initial build you can find out here:

Best,
Stefan
