Comment boxes grow out of control!

Post by justposted »

Let me start by saying how much I love the PDF Xchange viewer. My company has bought us all Acrobat X Pro licenses, but the free Xchange viewer is quicker, far more stable and has more functionality for my purposes (as an engineer, marking up drawings usually). About time I bought the pro version to support you, so I'll sort that out soon.

In the meantime, can I report a bug here? Please move to a different forum if appropriate.

When I enter a comment, I often need to change the text size afterwards. If I single click in the text size box I assume that it has highlighted the number (which is the expected behaviour), so I automatically start typing. It usually hasn't highlighted the number, however, and so the previous size (e.g. 12) gets my number added to it (e.g. making 1250) and the text automatically grows to that size immediately, before I have spotted the error. When I then reduce the text size again (e.g. to 50), the comment box has grown enormous to accommodate the large text (e.g. 1250 pt) and I can't even find the edges to reduce it again. So I have to undo and start again.

Can that be corrected?

A similar issue with expected click and type behaviour happens with the page number box at the bottom of the screen. Most software allows a single click to highlight text, then you can start typing to overwrite.

It's a small thing in this brilliant software, but would be nice to fix.

By the way, I asked a while ago about having a calibrate tool to allow the measurement scale to be set automatically (a la Bluebeam). The answer was that it would probably come out in the next version of PDF Xchange. Any sign of that new version?

Many thanks.

Hello justposted,

And many thanks for the detailed and kind post :)

One of our devs just told me that he has fixed this behaviour and that the fix will be in the next build of our Viewer (2.5.194) which is expected in the next couple of weeks.

Regards,
Stefan

Excellent news. Thanks for the swift reply Stefan.

Any thoughts on the other issue? I found my original post, where there was talk of calibration in version 3, due out at the beginning of 2011: https://forum.pdf-xchange.com/ ... =35&t=8791

Hello justposted,

The new version (PDF-X Viewer 2011) was delayed a bit further than our initial expectations, and is now expected before the end of Q2 this year. Please have a look at this topic:

for a brief outline of what is coming in this new version.

Best,
Stefan
