I scanned a form to a PDF document, then used the PDF-XChange Viewer Typewriter tool to fill in some of the fields on the form. Now, several weeks later, I want to fill some more fields using the Typewriter tool (no problem) and alter a previously filled field. I cannot select the previously filled field to change it. Ctrl/E shows only the newly added comments.
Since I'm running the free version, I know I haven't Flattened the document, but suspect that is what happened. Two questions:
1. Are there any other methods which might result in a "flattened" document (e.g. opening it in Adobe Reader)?
2. Is there a way to "un-flatten" a document?
I will probably start over with this one, but am trying to understand what happened in order to avoid it happening again.
As background, the document is a bank deposit slip. I would like the comment boxes pre-positioned (like a form), but editable when the document is opened.

Re: Automatic Flattening
Hello Qrious,
It would be best if you could send us a sample file (e.g. to support@pdf-xchange.com with a link to this topic) so that we could check it for ourselves. Also please make sure that you are using the latest build (currently 2.5.197) as if you are using an older build - this unexpected behaviour could be the result of a bug that we have already fixed.
And no - automatic flattening should not be happening in our Viewer, but I can not tell for other products.
Best,
Stefan

Re: Automatic Flattening
Nice try Stephan -- trying to get me to send you my bank deposit slip with the account number “flattened” into it! ;>)
Actually, I’ve solved the problem. After trying every combination of programs, saving, copying that I could think of with no flattening occurring, it occurred to me that since I scanned the document in the first place, scanning would “flatten”. A search of my scanned documents found the culprit -- an image with the “flattened” fields filled in.
Sorry for the confusion, and thanks for your help. At least now I know a way to flatten a document.

Re: Automatic Flattening
I am glad you are sorted. Wise not to send your bank info to Stefan.
Let us know if there is anything we can do for you!
