Testing PDF-XChange difficulties

Post by ntmd8tr33 »

I am currently testing PDF-XChange as a replacement of Foxit (so far it has fixed every issue we had with Foxit), and am experiencing difficulties integrating it with a 3rd party application. This 3rd party application has us place the install location/path of the application exe (PDFXCview.exe). You then "create" a pdf via the application, which in turn opens it automatically via the configured pdf viewer. This is not working with PDF-XChange. It will launch the application, but the file doesn't open. This is a java based web application we are using.

I am really liking your product so far, and would like to deploy it corporate wide, but without this functionality, we can't. Please advise.

Tested on:

Windows XP x86 SP3 + IE8
Windows 7 x86 SP1 + IE9

Thanks.

Hi ntmd8tr33,

thanks for evaluating PDF-XChange. Can you tell me any detail of how the Java application calls the PDF Viewer? It sounds like it has requirements other than just a call to open the file in the 'associated' application.

PDF-XChange Viewer can take command line arguements, the general usage is of the form:
PDFXCview.exe [command] [filename1] [[filename2] [… [filenameN]]]

See section 1.0 (page 18) of the Viewer manual for details on command line arguments.

I think the question here really is how does your Java application call the Viewer and how can we be privy to that so we can help?
Best regards

Paul,
Thanks for responding. I will have to contact support for the application to determine how they make the call to the exe and pass the pdf file to it.

Most likely won't get the information until next week, so will post here when I do.

Thanks again!
