Basic questions on Viewer SDK

Post by bob_sun »

Hi,

I have been an ordinary end user, and now desires to learn something about PDF-XChange Viewer programming.

1. How much programmability are allowed by Viewer's SDK? If I would like to add some gadget into the viewer, say, a small sticky note like the sticky note of Windows 7, could I do that?
2. In which language is the SDK provided? C++?
3. Is the viewer SDK free or needs to be purchased?
4. Does each release of SDK only supports specific versions of the Viewer?

Hi Bob_sun,

Thanks for your interest - I will answer as best I can without being too specific - if you need more detailed info an email to our sales@pdf-xchange.com may be the best way to go for detailed info ...

1. The SDKs provide functionality through methods and properties which can be used in your code. You can shape your application to have any functionality you desire but you cannot change the functionality of those methods or properties as they come in ActiveX or DLL format with no access to the source code directly - though the options provided offer considerable flexibility and are constantly expanding - version 3 in the works now extends this considerably.

2. The SDK is comprised of DLLs and ActiveX controls. These can be called by any programming language that supports their use (eg C++, VB, DotNET, C#, etc)

3. The viewer SDK is free for evaluation, (no timeouts etc) but must be purchased to remove the watermarks added to the documents created by it.

4. The Viewer SDK is a separate product, (albeit it is included with other SDK's as a bundled item), and therefore is good for all releases up to the point at which your maintenance expires coinciding with a major product version upgrade. Also please note the Viewer SDK's are not Royalty Free and you are licensed specifically for a number of end user Client installations - more detailed info is available here :

Please let me know if this answers your questions or if you have more.

Regards,
Jamie.
