Request: Maximize vertical viewable area

Post by kt »

May I make a request? Most people are probably using PDF-XChange Viewer to read and mark-up documents. Many of us, maybe most of us, are doing this on laptops. Unfortunately, over time, laptop screens have gotten shorter and wider. This has made working with documents more difficult.

Could you modify the layout to maximize the amount of vertical screen space used to display the document? I've moved most of the toolbars which are currently above and below the document to the side, but they aren't really designed to be stacked that way, and they are using space very inefficiently.

Great program!

The toolbars are highly customisable, and you don't need to keep them all in view. I use just the File toolbar, and have added the menus to that. A shortcut of "f" shows/hides the file toolbar. My monitor is 1280x1024, so I don't need to have any toolbars at the side, but the menu bar and the Pages Navigation Toolbars are the only one that cannot be made to work at the side without wasting space.

Toolbar buttons can be customised not to show text, and the stamp tool can be customised not to show the preview. You can create your own toolbars, and export/import settings to keep a backup of all your hard work in customising the interface.

Toolbars can also be left floating and show/hide with shortcuts, e.g. the Find toolbar.

Hello Kt,

I see that Bhikkhu posted while I was creating my reply :) and some of the things below might be duplicating what he said but still - it's better to have it said twice than not even once :)

We are fully redesigning our Viewer interface for ver3:
https://forum.pdf-xchange.com/ ... hp?t=10100
And it should be much more friendly when you try to customize it, but even now you should be able to select to hide the text on toolbar icons - and this will make them much more "vertical layout friendly" - check the screenshot attached.

Best,
Stefan
