Firefox/IE Printing with Links kept in PDF

Post by LemonBanana »

Hello,

I would like to have the links of a web-page kept in PDFs. The print driver seems not to be aware of them and prints the plain text only in my environment. It should behave like the Wordprocesser PlugIns - I could not find any new Button / Menu after activaion of the FF/IE Plugin to get this done.
The plugin is named "PDF-XChange Viewer" - it seems to allow seemless viewing of PDFs within the browser only.

best regards

Hi LemonBanana,

the PDF-XChange Standard Print Driver installs addins in MS Word as you point out, it also installs an icon in IE.

This is I believe what you are asking for - a convert to PDF that does additional tasks like creating non-literal hyper links. Take a look at the PDF attached. It was created using this and has the kind of links I think you are asking about.

Note that this is not a part of the Viewer or the Lite printer we are giving away with the Viewer. For this functionality you need either PDF-XChange 4 Standard or PDF-XChange 4 Pro.

Hello Paul,

Thanks for your quick reply. exactly what I'm looking for. unfortunately neither IE nor FF offer me this icon. Today I reinstalled my licensed Version of PDF XChange Pro.

FF shows PDF_XChange Viewer PlugIn. Should there be anything else listed from PDF-XChange.
There is nothing in the *extensions* tab listed which seems to be assiciated with Tracker Software or PDF XChange.

There is also NO Item in the Menu (File, Extra,..) which offers me PDF Conversion.

If activated (checkmarked) ALL Symbol-Bars which FF offers to me.

** IE **

IE lists a HelperObject and a ToolBar from TrackerSoftware - but no PDF Icon is Displayed.
I see a *Tracker Toolbar*, which I disabled because it points to GenericAskToolbar.dll which is from ASK.com and unfortunately hit my system sometime ago.

Please can you give any advice how I can get this ToolBar/Icon displayed ?

If you need any Systeminfos/Debugfiles - pls let me know.

best regards

Hi Lemonbanana,

the addin is installed by default if you accepted those during the installation and it is only for IE. To work with FF you must choose File --> Print and lose the additional hyperlinks etc.

For the extended functionality we are discussing you must use IE as it has it's own addin for printing with non-literal hyperlinks. Can you check to see if the addin was installed but not enabled?

In IE go to Tools --> Internet Options --> Programs --> Manage Add-ons --> All Add-ons --> Tracker Software Products and see if it is installed but not enabled?

There should be 3 items as per my screen shot below. 2 of these are for the conversion of web pages to PDF (PDF-XChange 4.0 Browser Helper Object and the PDF-XChange 4.0 Toolbar). These are separate and distinct from the PDF-XChange Viewer IE_Plugin which enables our Viewer inside of IE for displaying PDF files. It it the first 2 that need to be enabled.

Do you see these listed and can you enable them? You may need to close all instances of and restart IE to see the changes.

IE had the support for 3rd party plugin disabled in the configuration options - so the plugin was listed in IE as being there - but was not executed and the Icon and functionality was missing.

maybe some else will be hit by a restricted environment - and this will help finding the reason.

Hi Paul,

yes, its working now with IE - after enabeling 3rd party extensions (at least temporarely when needed). 3rd party blocking is activated by default here during login to get rid of JAVA, Falsh and all this buggy stuff which opens the PC for drive by infections.

extension/plugin does not work in FF - but at least one working environment is fine - FF will have a similar reason I guess - will not investigate further.

kind regards
