Page 198 of the help manual provides instructions for changing the default Typewriter font. However, the option to "Set Current Text Formatting as Default" is not active on this installation.
What to do?

Re: Set Current Text Formatting as Default is greyed out
Hi SteepleChase,
the reason that you see this is that there are 2 levels of properties for text objects like the Typewriter Tool. The first level allows you to change the border size, colour style fill etc, the second level the font properties. In the screen shot you sent the 'greyed out' 'Set Current Appearance as Default' is to set the 'outer properties' - those for the box and I suspect you already have the default settings. If you change the colour of the border of your Typewriter Tool this option will become available.
In truth what I think you really want is to set the default style for the text. There are 2 ways to do that:
1. Select the text, set the properties using the Properties Toolbar then right click it and select 'Text Formatting --> Set Current Text Formatting as Default'

2. Select the text, set the properties using the Properties Toolbar then click "Make Default" on the Properties Toolbar.
