I'm running PDF-XChange Viewer 2.5.200 (German) under Windows Vista SP2.
The other day, I had to deal with a password-protected PDF file. I could open it without problems as I knew the password. However, after opening it I was not able to remove the password protection via the properties/safety menu. The program asked me to enter the file password, I entered the same password as initially, but it was not accepted. No error message was displayed, however.
What can be the reason for this strange behaviour?
Password protection cannot be removed!

Hi gshybrid,
the password to open the document and the password to allow you to modify the security settings are typically not the same. You will need the second password to change the permissions. If you are not the author of the document then you will need to get it from the author.
This KB article describes the two concepts in a little more detail: https://www.pdf-xchange.com/knowled ... dits-to-it

Thanks, Paul, for the information. I think I've got the idea ...
