Summerize Comments: connector lines (or numbers) hiding text

Post by Daistwasimbush »

Hello,

i've some pdf's with about 4 comments per page. Because i have to print the document including the comments, i have tried to get them on paper with "Summerize comments".
Unfortunetly, all ways that shows the position of the comment in the document are hiding some parts of the text of it.
If i use "Document and comments with connector lines on a single page", the lines are to big. Some important parts of the text are behind them. Is it possible to reduce the size (pt) of the lines? Or to make them a little transparent?
Same problem with assignement by numbers. The numbers especially of highlighted text are hiding parts of them self.

Or is there any other way to print comments by showing there position on the document?

Thank you.

Hi Daistwasimbush

thanks for the question. It can be a little messy getting the right layout for comments and even more tricky for me to comment on it without seeing what you are doing.

Can I ask you to post the original and the summary here so I can see what you are doing? Maybe I can make suggestions on how to make it look a little more presentable.

Paul
Best regards

Hi Paul,

thanks for your quick reply. I believe i'm not allowed to post the whole PDF's here, but i've added a screenshot of 2 pages.
First one with "Document and comments with connector lines on a single page". As you can see,s the lines are hiding some (important) parts of the text. The second page is using numbers. They are hiding the most important part of the page: highlighted ampersands in this case.
Finally i have to print about 2000 pages, most of them with comments.

Actually i'm using the free version. I like to buy the pro version, if it can help me out.

Hello Daistwasimbush,

This feature is the same regardless of whether you have a license for our Viewer or not, and I am afraid that you can't make the lines thinner or transparent in the current version - nor the numbers in the other option.

We are going to make some changes to the summarize comments feature for ver3 of the Viewer, but I can't promise you that such thinner/transparent lines will be available.

Best,
Stefan

Hello Stefan,

is it possible to use a beta version of v3, which may have some improvements for printing comments?
Do you can recommend any other way to solve the goal: Getting the document including comments on paper - without loosing informations of the document, of course?

Only way i have on my backhand is to print all PDF's two times: One with comments and connector lines, other one without comments for the case of hidden textparts.
I need it for an exam, where we can get this informations with us.

Hello Daistwasimbush,

There is no publicly available beta of ver3 I am afraid, and I can't think of any other solution with the current version other than summarizing the comments - but not using any pointers - so you will not need to print it twice - but it can then be tricky to locate the exact position of the comment in the original file.

Best,
Stefan

Thank you, Stefan. Find an other way now: File > Print, than button "More..." or something like this ("Weitere..." in german) seems to be working.
It prints notes and comments directly on the main document. Transparency is configurable. Of course, all comments needs to be on the best position, near the marking point.

One thing that makes me a little bit sad: it seems that all highlighted text without comments got an empty comment window now.

Nevertheless i hope to get better "summerize comments" feature in the next releases. PDF-Xchange is the best software i know in this case, but still it isnt pretty good and useable at the moment.
Lesson learnt for the future: Dont use comments if you dont know how it is printable. I was a little bit optimistic in that point. The time i've saved by using PDF-Xchange for commenting the document i've spended multiple times now to get them out on paper.

Hello Daistwasimbush,

Yes - printing notes and popups will work - but we can't guarantee that there won't be an overlap there as well.

As for the highlighted text - please go to Edit -> Preferences -> Commenting - and check the checkbox in front of "Copy selected text into Highlight, Cross-out and Underline comment pop-ups"

Best,
Stefan
