Registered - but option to enter license key is still there

Hi,

I entered my license key when installing and had to do it again in the printer view.

Is it normal that after having done that (and having restarted my PC), that I can still change the license key in the PDF-Xchange Viewer under Help=>Enter license key?

yes that is normal. Depending on which installer you used and which license you purchased the key should go into all places required during installation.

If you purchased PDF-XChange Viewer and then installed both it and PDF-XChange Lite (the Viewer key also unlocks the Lite Driver) then the key needs to be entered into each installer separately.

If you purchased the PDF-XChange 4 Pro Bundle then only one install is required and the key is put into all the places required automatically.

In either case - you can go back into any of these installed applications and modify the key.

it sounds like you have the software installed and working correctly. The bundle does need the key in 3 places if it is not entered during the install. Start PDF-Tools from the Windows Start Menu --> PDF-XChange 4 Pro --> PDF-Tools - you may need to enter your key in there also :

PDF-Tools --> Preferences [button] --> About [tab] --> Serial Key [button] --> Serial Key [text field]

If you entered the key during the installation you should not need to do this. Was this the case? Were you ever prompted to enter the serial key during install?

Strange. It put it in during the installation.

Then I had to put it in in the viewer and in the printer. In the Tools it was already posted.

Say, I noticed that I have "PDF XChange 3" and "PDF XChange Pro 4" in the start menu. Is that normal?
After purchase, I downloaded only PDFX4.exe (or .msi - I can't tell, as I don't have the option enabled to see file endings) from http://www.pdf-xchange.de/download-xchange.htm

Can I uninstall PDF XChange 3? or is it part of the bundle?

Yes - the link you've posted is for the full Pro package - and it does include the Viewer as well.

As for ver3 - if you are sure it wasn't installed by a third party product - then it's safe to be removed, but if a third party application relies on it - uninstalling it could cause it to not function properly.

I am 100% sure it was installed with the Pro package that I downloaded - as I uninstalled it and then installed it again.

Now, besides PDF XChange 4 Pro, I also have version 3 installed.

For what reason is it included?

I can categorically state that the PDFX4.exe installer does not install V3. I have tested this installer myself. It must have been in place before you ran the installer for V4.

You could verify that yourself by uninstalling all the Tracker Software and running PDFX4.exe again.

I would, however, recommend against that. As Stefan has mentioned, if you have V3 in there it is very likely that is came as a part of another application - we sell our technology to other developers who often incorporate it just as you described. If it is part on another application and you remove it, that application will likely have problems.
