Hello !
The problem I encounter when using the viewer is this. Due to my profession, I am forced to work with a lot of pdf documents, opened in different tabs. If I close down the program and open it again , then the same working session is displayed. But if for some reason I reboot my PC, then a different, older session is displayed which, needless to say, does not contain the tabs which were last opened. So, the previous session is never restored after a restart and each time I have to manually open the tabs I was working with. Why does this happen and what can be done about it ? Thanks in advance.

Re: bizarre problem
Try closing down PDF-XChange, then reboot your computer. If you reboot without closing PDF-XChange it has no chance to save the current session.

Re: bizarre problem
Hello lucianmarian,
Closing the Viewer should write the latest session in the registry - so that it's then restored.
A reboot should not affect this, unless you are rebooting and e.g. restoring to an earlier point your OS - but then I doubt you do that daily
Are there any registry monitoring applications at your end that could be interfering with the proper operation of our Viewer?
Best,
Stefan

Re: bizarre problem
Hello, Stefan.
Thank for your interest ! By reboot I mean just a restart. It can also happen when I shut down the PC and start it up again, and also when new Windows updates are installed. Any of these operations seems somehow to interfere with the session-restoring capability of PDF X-change viewer. I dont come up against this problem, though, when I close down the program during an ordinary working session. As far as I know, I have not installed any specific registry monitoring applications, but again I am not that experienced with this. Maybe you could give me a clue what to look at.
Thanks.

Hello lucianmarian,
That's quite a strange behaviour and the first such case we have seen.
Could you please confirm for us that you are using the latest build of the Viewer?
(You can check that in Help -> About inside the Viewer itself)
Best,
Stefan

Re: bizarre problem
Are you opening more than one instance of PDF-XChange?
For example, if you open the old session from yesterday, then start a new session, and close the new session before closing the old one from yesterday, the old session from yesterday will still be your default session for tomorrow — not the new session from today.

Re: bizarre problem
Good call Bhikkhu,
that definitely would account for the behaviour. Also after discussing this with the development team I think it's fair to say that the only other likely candidate is something modifying your registry settings.
Maybe look through your installed applications and look for anything that has 'Reg' in it's name, uninstall it if you don't need it and see if that helps.

Re: bizarre problem
Hi, Bhikku
Yes, I guess that would account for this strange behavoiur but it's not the case here. I have looked in <Preferences, General Options> and <Allow multiple instances> is not checked. Ever since the installation , I have never worked with multiple instances.
And yes, Stefan, I am using the lastest build.
And, Paul, if that is indeed the case and some application is interfering, why would the damage be limited to this particular program only ?

Re: bizarre problem
Hello lucianmarian,
Could you please make a backup of your current settings (Edit -> Export all settings to data file), and then try to reinstall our Viewer. Make sure to fully uninstall the version you have now, reboot, then download and use the .exe installer:
www.tracker-software.com/PDFXVwer.zip
And reboot a second time after the reinstall completes.
Then load back your settings from the file you created as first step - and see if the session handling has improved.
Best,
Stefan
