PDF X-change viewer unable to view web apps

Post by mnkent »

We attempted to eliminate adobe reader completely and go to pdf x-change viewer. We are running into a problem with certain web docs. A couple that I see most are forms from AFLAC and health advantage. When I select the pdf forms for the website they will not open unless I install Adobe Reader? Has anyone else seen this, or does anyone know how to resolve it?

Hello Mike,

It would be best if you can provide us with a link (or a copy of ) the PDF file in question - so that we can test it at our end.

If the file is sensitive - please send the link to support@pdf-xchange.com with a link to this topic as well - and we will check that file for you and advise what could be causing this problem.

Best,
Stefan

Hi Mike,

even though we had an email correspondence I am posting this for the benefit of others who may read this thread:

Indeed you seem to have hit the nail on the head when you mention the scripts. I can't tell you if the script generates the form itself or calls Adobe explicitly to load another file. We really can't say without access to the site.

I would suggest an email to the webmaster of those sites will result in a response along the lines of "You MUST use Adobe Reader to use this site." If you do that I'd be interested to hear what they have to say, especially if you point out that you would prefer to use a superior Viewer. We have actually had web sites change their behaviour when they come under pressure from enough users to support a standard not a product.
