Merge multipage

Post by ChrisM »

Hi there, can anybody explain how to merge a 2 page PDF file into a 1 page PDF? Both pages are short and would easily fit in one page. I'm using the XChange Viewer Pro version, but couldn't find such a possibility neither in the PDF tools. Please advise. Thanks

Hello Chris,

I am afraid that you can't just drag and place whole pages as parts of a new larger one directly, but there is still a way. You can "print" those two pages to a new PDF document (if you also have our printing drivers) - just make sure to select "Multiple Pages per sheet" at the print window.

Best,
Stefan

Hi Stefan, thanks for your advise. I tried this already, but the second page changes (God knows why?) its size and doesn't fit anymore under the first page. Just for you to know, I croped the pages before to the same size left and right...

Hello Chris,

Could we possibly get a sample file that shows this problem - and I will find the correct steps that will allow you to "merge" these two pages in the way you want?

Stefan

Yes, sure. Please find attached two empty pages, which fit exactly to the pages, which I like to merge.

Hello Chris,

Apologies - at first I assumed that both pages are with the same aspect ratio.

I am afraid that it's not currently possible to "print" two pages as in your sample and not force one of them to be scaled down. The "Multiple pages per sheet" option in our Viewer splits the sheet into equal portions - and each page is fit in it's own part of the page.

What I could think of is to create a new page with the desired dimensions, and then using the snapshot tool to place the two pages you want to merge onto the larger page and then print that.

Yes the file will increase in size and any text and vector objects would be rasterised but is the only solution I can think of without having to print on actual paper.

Best,
Stefan

Yes, Stefan, I also came to this idea, but you agree for sure, that this is normally not the right way to reach the result. To merge different PDF files is no problem, as we know, but why not merging sites in one and the same document? May be Tracker Software could solve this in the future. At least we are saving paper and protect the environment, isn't it? ))) Thank you for your support and quick answers.

Cheers

Chris
