Center mouse button (wheel) as hand instead of scroll?

Post by bacon117 »

I love pdf-xchange so far. One thing that always bothered me about adobe is the middle mouse button, or scroll wheel. When you depress it, it turns on scrolling. This is fine I guess, but it's backwards from the hand tool, which I'm more used to using, and it feels more natural. I never really like the 2D scroll thing where the page moves faster the farther you are away from the center. (It's the same reason I like mouse control in FPS games rather than joystick. )

Is there any way to have the middle mouse button activate the hand tool, instead of scroll? It would be a fantastic addition to pdf-xchange.

Thanks

Hi Russ,

depending on the version of Windows you are running and the mouse you have you could create a Key Combination in the Viewer then using the Mouse settings in the Windows Control Panel set the middle mouse action to a macro then assign the same keystrokes you set for the Hand Tool in the Viewer. It works for me using Win 7 and a Microsoft mouse.

To create a keyboard shortcut vor the Hand Tool read this: http://www.docu-track.com/knowledgebase ... r-commands

To assign a macro with to the middle mouse button go to :

Code: Select all

Start --> Control Panel --> Mouse --> Buttons [tab] --> Wheel Button [drop list] --> Macro Editor --> New [button] --> Create a name --> Editor [text area] --> Enter your keystrokes
or

Code: Select all

Start --> Control Panel --> Mouse --> Buttons [tab] --> Wheel Button [drop list] --> Keystroke --> Enter your keystrokes
Just be aware that when you have focus on certain objects like the text in an annotation you will need to hit the ESC [Escape] key else the keystrokes will be text not a command.

hth
