Can only input single number in form field

Post by jfpan »

I'm trying to fill out a tax form downloaded from government site. In the boxes, the cursor aligns to the right, and will only allow me to insert a single digit. I've tried hitting the align left button, to no avail. Is there some way around this problem?

Hello jfpan,

And welcome to our forums.
Could you please provide us with a sample of the said form, or a link to it - and we will run some tests on it at our end and should be able to advise further once we've tested it.

Best,
Stefan

Thanks, Stefan. A copy of the link to the form is attached. The trouble starts when you get to the boxes starting with 1a. Other government forms with the same type of setup had the same problem. http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1065.pdf

HI jfpan,

are you using the latest build of PDF-XChange Viewer? I can enter multiple characters in the form linked to, thought they do justify to the right. Can you zip up the original sample and attach it to this thread or link directly to it's URL so we can look at that one also?
Best regards

Hi Paul. I am using the most current version of the software. Attached is a zipped copy of the specific file. I hope this is what you are looking for. Many thanks.

Hi again jfpan,

that form seems to be functioning correctly using build 201 if the Viewer. Help --> About PDF-XChange Viewer... will display the build you are running. See my screen shot, as you can see the form field 1a does right justify and allow multiple characters. The right side filed is limited to 2 characters as it is the cent's part of the monetary value. This is dictated by the form itself. :

Can you confirm that is the build you are using? I know you said it is current but I'd like to confirm that this means you are running build 201. If not please close the Viewer and run this installer to update it to 201 https://www.pdf-xchange.com/PDFXVwer.zip

You were right, Paul. I didn't have Build 201. I just installed it, and the form is working fine. Many thanks for resolving the problem.
