Hi,
we have a big DOC file with a lot of hyperlinks in it. All hyperlinks in this DOC file are linked to pdf files in our intranet. We created a PDF file from the DOC file (with adobe pro). If i open the new created pdf file i can open all hyperlinks in the PDF file.
Now we put the PDF file in our intranet and now, if i open the PDF file in the IE/FF and try to open a hyperlink in the PDF file i get an error that the file i try to open is missing. The Path to the file is L:\..... but in the error message the path begins with K:\....
This is strange... with the original Acrobat Reader X all is working fine.
Problem with hyperlinks in PDF files

Re: Problem with hyperlinks in PDF files
A lot could be the problem, security settings, firewall, etc. K: maybe the path that your network uses to log in and IE is trying to follow that path. If the permissions are set not to let IE/FF or any browser, it stops the access at the K drive.
What I would do is put it in a fold that I know IE/FF can access regularly, then try that path from there. If that doesn't work revert it back to the word DOC and try again. That will tell you if the PDF Preferences need to be changed for access.
I would have used PDF Viewer instead of Adobe Pro. Life is easier IMO.

Re: Problem with hyperlinks in PDF files
Hi,
i attached the error message. The error message is in german, in english:
Could not execute the action "open" for "file:///K:/path/to/pdf/file.pdf"
Error [operating system]: The system could not find the path
@Herb Flores
No i don't think it is a security problem because it worked very well with acrobat reader x. At the moment the pdf file is displayed (embedded) in the IE. If i use the option to display the pdf not embedded in the IE but with the dialog box to save or open the pdf file, the hyperlinks work fine with the xchange viewer too.

Re: Problem with hyperlinks in PDF files
Hello phatair,
Are you creating those links as relative or hard coded with the full path?
And could you provide us with a sample file (via e-mail to support@pdf-xchange.com ) so that we can check those links?
Best,
Stefan

Re: Problem with hyperlinks in PDF files
Hi phatair,
Could you please then create a sample file not containing any sensitive info - and send that to us with the expected path to which it should resolve. We will then try to reproduce the problem here at our end (with creating a share with the same name) - and once we've had the chance to test we should be able to advise further.
Best,
Stefan

Re: Problem with hyperlinks in PDF files
Phatair,
You most likely did this already, but I just did and marked everything deny. It prevented it from opening in FF and IE with a message of something of "file not available or something like that. I clicked away pretty quick.. And then I went back and set to my normal permissions and it worked again.
The next thing I did was move that file to my Q: drive. Which is not accessible unless I manually connect to it because it is my 2 Terabyte backup which I never use while online. I got the same message you got.
This is how I changed permissions
I went to the a PDF file, right click>Properties>Security> then checked each group and user name to see what permissions are marked checked allow/deny. Back to Security>click advanced>click on effective permissions>click select>click object types>see that the objects checked. (users groups etc. ) Click all the way out OK.
Which I could help you more, but I am just trying to get the same results you are getting because I hate those magical problems.

Re: Problem with hyperlinks in PDF files
Thanks Herb,
that's great input. It makes sense that the file permissions would change the Add-In access to the file. Especially IE it particular about restricting access to files. Does it help phatair to set the permissions of the files to 'Allow'?
