PDFX and Forms with Formulas

Post by TBolt »

Pardon if this question has been asked before but my searches have come up with nothing helpful.

I have a PDF form that was created with Adobe LiveCycle; this form is similar to a standard invoice. It contains boxes that users will fill out what item they want to order, how many of those items, their item cost, with the total cost containing a formula that auto-calculates and auto fills the total cost (by taking the number of items times their individual item cost). When I used PDFX to convert/open the file, none of the auto-calculate boxes work (they do work in Adobe Reader). I very much would like to use PDFX as your program allows saving of filled out forms.

I am assuming that the formulas did not import across when I opened the form with PDFX. Is there a way to accomplish this or write the formula in?

OS: WinXp with SP2
PDFXChange Viewer (Free) version: 2.5 (build 201.0)

Any help or link to the appropriate support thread would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi TBolt,

There are many variables involved when dealing with forms. It would be best if we can take a look at this. Can you attach the form to this post? Be sure to put it in a zip archive so as to ensure the forum software doesn't strip it away.
Best regards

Thanks for the speedy reply, Paul. Attached is the requested file. I have currently set PDFX as my default reader and have noticed if I (Open With) the file using Adobe, it still works. Feel free to reply if you need any other info.

Thanks for the sample TBolt.

This form is of type PDF XFA. PDF-XChange Viewer already has extensive support for XFA but there are still examples out there, like yours, that require additional functionality to be added. Support for XFA forms is an ongoing process and we are aiming for as close as possible to supporting all such forms in our new version of the Viewer to be released May 31st.

We have this sample and will look into it specifically. There is a Support Request Ticket for this: RT#1465: PDFX and Forms with Formulas and the best I can offer right now is that it should work in the new version.
